A Kabob would instantly pop in my hand when I am hungry. I hate cooking. I go for easy stuff.

Shrimp Kabob

Beef Kabob

Those are easy? They look really hard to do, well not to stick them on a stick, but to cook them right. . . that would be the tough part. . .

Putting them on the skewers is the most time consuming part. Cooking them is easy. Depending on what's on there....maybe some steak or chicken, a few shrimp and some chopped peppers, onions and mushrooms. Just a few minutes, turn them over, couple more minutes and chow down.

I always burn my veggies before the meat is cooked.

Pre plan, make a marinade and soak the meat the night before and make a marinade for the veggies. Make sure u soak the skewers (if they are wooden, I have metal ones) for atleast an hour or so, then skew the meat right before you grill them or cook them on a flat grill on medium until cooked to your likeness. I make lamb skewers and here is my recipe:

One pound of lamb cut into cubes

2 bell peppers of any variety

Baby portabella mushrooms

Red onions cut into squares

Marinade for meat:

1/2 cup olive oil

2 large lemons squeezed and zest peeled

One large garlic clove

8-10 sprigs of fresh mint chopped

Small sprig of chopped fresh parsley

Salt, pepper and allspice to taste

Marinade for veggies:

1/4cup olive oil

1/3 cup red wine vinegar

Pinch of sugar (1 tblsp)

Salt and pepper to taste

Marinade both the meat and veggies in a plastic ziplock bag (after whisking in together all the ingredients into two separate bowls) and marinate 8-10 hour or over night.

Skewer them the day of and grill and enjoy! So yummy and great with a side of quinoa

Or...... Places like Safeway, Raleys and even Whole Foods sell pre-made kabobs that are marinated in the meat counter.

All you have to do is grill or broil.

Safeway also has started selling frozen kabobs and they are awesome!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
