I went to my local gp this afternoon to get another referral to my band doctor as they only last 12 months.

Anyway i told the doc how much weight i have lost and how happy and good im feeling. She said oh let me take your weight and height measurements to check your bmi. So she did all that and my BMI was 34...WOW i was really happy as before i got banded it was like 52 i think.

The doc said that is way to high and it should be 20-25 and i really need to lose more weight. Geez cant she see how far i have already came and give a postive instead of saying what she said. I felt very intimidated as i thought losing 35kg in 10 months was a good effort but obviously not:(.

Sorry i just had to let this out, normally i dont but i mustv neede to...lol

Damn Fee!

You've done an amazing job. DON'T LET ANYONE RAIN ON YOUR PARADE (I hope that means the same thing there as it does to us Yanks...) Did you at least get your referal?

fee, you're doing so well. Either your GP is a total boob or else may be busy. Some practitioners see so many people in a day, week, month that even if they've seen you many times, they may honestly not remember what your condition on previous visits was without carefully going over their notes and we know they often don't do that. I'm hoping that is the case rather than insensitivity.

Anyway, congratulations on your fabulous loss.

Doctors must be listened to for medical advice. :help:

Their personal demeanor, however, can be chucked out of the window. :huytsao

Many doctors smoke and engage in other unhealthy activities. :faint:

Look in the mirror and be proud. :clap2:

You do not need this doctor's emotional support. You do not need anyone's emotional support. :)

I think you are doing great, but I don't matter either.

That kind of reply needs addressed RIGHT THEN!! Do not allow her to overlook your accomplishments. Call her on her attitude/statement!! You pay her salary she is your employee. Until you and other patients stop allowing her abuse you she will continue. Your other choice is to pick another GP.

She is a person and not one of a higher status. You are paying for her medical knowledge. My reply would have been yes it is 34 but 10 months ago is was in the 50's and while I acknowledge you would like it in the 20s it cannot happen overnight. Thats why I am here to get my referral for continued care from the surgeon who is assisting not judging me.

Doctors are taught in medical school to distance themselves and seperate to a point of rude to the lay person. Sometimes it takes a patient to reground/ reteach the human-ness of medicine. You can also just very politely ask her- Tell me something, do you feel I have not done well? why are you so harsh with me? Sometimes just a patient taking time to ask her about the harshness helps soften.

Chalk this one up to being caught off guard! I think you have done WONDERFUL!!! :clap2: :clap2: Next time go in armed and ready for her and make it a conversation two way dont allow her to do that to you!!

Not all doctors are jerks. Was this an off day or is she customarily rude? If so can you find yourself a more supportive one? I briefly saw a doc who was so nasty that she might have actually had psychiatric problems before dumping her in order to hunt for a nice one. This took a bit of time as I wanted one who was close to home and a woman but it was worth the work. The one I've got now is a good doctor and a supportive human being. By the way, I went about finding a doctor by asking people in the neighbourhood including store owners about their own doctors.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
