I pushed up my move to mushy foods by a week or so because I just could not stand the Protein Drinks any more. Be very careful and remember that your stomach is still healing and you REALLY don't want to put any strain on the seam - a leak could kill you.

I had a couple crackers and I have had cheese. I chewed them both to mushy texture so I'm hoping that that will be okay.

I have cheated too :-(. I had some laughing cow cheese and deviled ham. Not a lot, but something. I need to write LEAK on my fridge so I will stop! I'm just having trouble not getting my Protein in. It really sucks drinking these shakes over and over.

I really don't want to cheat again. I can officially have puréed foods next Wednesday. Ready already!

Yea at my three week appt I told my Doc I was "cheating." I'm supposed to be on purees until this weekend... i told him i was chewing my juicy chicken and soft cooked veggies really well and then taking two sips of Water with every bit.... i told him that was basically what my food processor did. He just laughed at me.

I'm not lecturing because this IS hard! But please remember that you don't want your stomach doing the action of digestion. It's supposed to be at rest so it can heal. Even if you are chewing foods, your tummy will still see it as 'aha! Food! Must digest!' and it will go to town. The boring liquid you have to drink just sloshes in and sloshes out. :-)

Every doctor has a different answer as to what you have to fibrin the weeks following surgery. I had mine on the 10th and was told I could have puréed meats as well as eggs and soft foods like cottage cheese and yogurt. Have been doing fine with it!

It's important to follow your doctors plan because he knows what he did and used for your surgery. Not all vsg surgeries are identical.

Also with all the swelling we have after surgery, you could have a leak/problem and not realize you did damage til weeks later when the swelling subsides.

I'm not lecturing or looking down on anyone, I would never do that, I'm just stating some information for consideration.

I think we are all well aware of what the doctors have told us to do and what the risks are. We also know sometimes mistakes are made and are worth talking about too I'm hopes to keep us from doing them again and maybe keeping others from doing it too..

It's nice to be able to just blow off steam and talk about what you did or might do in hopes that you won't be tempted to eat next time but will come here and post instead.

I personally think that everyone who posts here knows their doctor is the one who sets their protocol and thats what they should follow. So i've decided to stop saying 'call your surgeon.' *sigh*. Prolly gonna get me in a heap of trouble. :-)

The reason i know about the stomach being at rest was because i cheated with oatmeal. It was SO dumb. But i was craving oatmeal so badly....and i watered it down. And chewed....my NUT almost had a coronary.....

This is hard work. It really is. I survived by not watching TV because of the commercials and by hanging out on here. Hang in there!!

The tv commercials were the worst. Ugh. I never realised how much life/tv revolved around food. I had to turn it off,it was making me so hungry. The only thing that got me through the healing process was repeatedly telling myself it was temporary. It was a very difficult time indeed! I was counting the minutes down to my next food progression.

I know! It was harder for me than the pre-op. i even dreamed of food. (There's a thread about that somewhere on here.) I had a calendar where I marked off the days with a red marker.

So yeah, we really DO know how hard it is not to cheat.

Oh, another thing that got me thru it was reminding myself that when I CAN eat that no food would be off limits. I can forever now take ONE bite of anything I want, and my sleeve will hopefully do it's job and stop me. I'm only 4 weeks postop, but that is still keeping me going. In moderation, and done right (Protein first) i will never have to deny myself a bite of something in the future. I hope i'm making sense...dreaming of a bite of cheese cake...soon...... :-)

PB2 (the powdered peanut butter) makes my Protein Shakes taste like heaven!!! And if you are going to cheat, puree the heck out of it!! My doc's protocol is for 6 weeks, if I can eat it with a fork, it is to thick. And I don't know if you have blended and then strained anything, but I am AMAZED at how much thickness there still is even after blending the crap out of stuff in my blendtec. Please be careful!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
