9 Mos Out....cant Eat :( Help!

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 9 mos post-op & my restriction seems like it's getting to be more instead of less. I can hardly eat anything. I feel like I can literally feel the food hit my stomach within 2 bites & then I get extremely uncomfortable or start to get a stomachache. I have an appt w/ my surgeon on Monday but just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this??

When I get this feeling, it is usually because I did not chew my food enough or eat too quickly. I try to put my utensil down between each bite, but occassionally, I do fall back to the old habit of inhaling my food. Then I pay for it.

Are you still drinking enough fluids throughout the day? Sometimes this happens to me when I haven't had enough fluids and it feels like more of a "shock" to my stomach to throw something down there. I still observe the "no drinking" fluids during a meal, but it helps to drink a little Water up until about 15-20 before eating.

I do drink a lot still & my body forces me to observe the no drinking w/ meals rule!! If I deviate even the tiniest bit, I throw up. This has been the case since day 1 & now I've completely adapted. I finally even stopped ordering drinks when at a restaurant. Seems like it would have been immediate, but old habits die hard :) So not a drinking issue. Even drinking has become uncomfortable this past week...before then it was just the eating ??? And I chew very thoroughly, which has actually made me despise most meat, but I still do it.

Sometimes it happens to me, two or one bite and I am full. I try to stay with Soups and foods that go down real easy. Thank God for protien shakes because that is mostly how I get my nutrition when I don't eat,

Weird! If my restrictions changed to that degree, I'd be concerned too! yikes. Sounds like "something" has gone on down there. I pray it's nothing serious!!

What pdxman said. I also get sick and that over-full feeling if I eat too fast.

Your the first person "I've" heard say their restriction became worse with time. Definitely worth getting checked out.

I'm only 5 months out... So Im still a newbie and dont have the experience that you and others do. For me, I feel much more restriction on certain days and sometimes for even a few weeks at a time. Right now I am struggling to eat 1 oz of fish. Last week i could have polished that off pretty quickly and feel satisfied ... Not full. I struggle to get in 600 calories a day and my shakes are 160 of those calories. I feel like I eat less and feel full faster then I did in the begining. Be sure and post what your doctor says. Keep us posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
