My eating is out of control today & I pretty much hate myself for it. How can I justify this when my surgery is getting closer. I think subconsciously I'm thinking my pre-op diet starts on 10/15. I can't have food for 2 weeks so I might as well live it up while I can. Is this normal? On the bright side I was worrying about losing enough to disqualify myself. If I keep this up that won't be a problem. Hopefully I'll get up with a different aditude tomorrow.

It is normal...I was having the same issue....my surgery date is October 1st and for the past few weeks I have been eating everything in sight! I think I was afraid I would never be able to eat those things again. But I let myself have 2 weeks of pizza, chicken wings, etc.and now the thought of food is no longer consuming me. I don't have a pre-op diet to follow, but I am eating much better for the next 12 days. Its like anything else, the more you can't have it, the more you want it! Don't be too hard on yourself. And good luck with your surgery!

Yea, I went through this also. My surgery is Oct 2 and my preop starts Monday. Without even realizing I was eatting all kinds of unhealthy things constantly. I was even eating sweets something I normally dont do. Then I went to my last visit before surgery and found out I gained 5 pounds!!!! OMG!!! not good. It passed because I just got SICK of eating. I guess Im ready now.

I thinks it's very normal.

I had surgery on the 13 of this month.

But I didn't have to do preop diet, however I did have to lose 10 by the time I went to get my surgery date. Did that, got my appt. And then I felt like I could eat and eat and eat. I gained 5lbs and when I had my last preop class I asked the nurse if that would be a problem. She said if didn't lose it the dr. Would probably have to res schedule that she had seen it done before. You know I was so scared. I did.drop the 5 lbs. Boy was it a close call. Hang in there it'll all be over soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
