Confused When It Comes To Liquid

Recommended Posts

I'm a little confused.

When we have Protein Drinks (i use water)

Sf popsicles

broth

And Vitamin Water does it count towards the 64oz of liquids we should be intaking?

I've been making my Protein Drink with 8 oz of water, 2 scoops of Protein Powder (60 gr of protein) and I get about 3 popsicles and of course some water. But I wonder if I'm doing this right... Please shine some light on me....

liquid is liquid. You use 8oz of Water to make a shake, you just injested 8oz of liquid. It counts.

Popcycles ... not much liquid there, a couple ounces. I wouldn't bet the bank on that.

broth ... Vitamin water ... it's liquid. Count it.

When you use two scoops of Protein Powder for 60 grams of Protein, however, you cannot count all 60 grams. This is because there is no way your body can process all 60 grams at once. Everyone is going to be different, of course, but 30 grams is generally accepted. I'm guessing the directions on your powder say 1 scoop and you are just trying to get it all taken care of at once.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

Google protein absorption to learn more.

I knew it was to good to be true..lol!

I was going by my binder where it says to add 2 scoops but it's probably to get the 30 gr of Protein. Maybe I'll use less Water 1 scoop and do that twice a.day.

Thanks.

Under my doctors direction a Protein drink is not a clear liquid(it really is not clear). I didn't start them until I went to full liquids.......................

I don't think she is talking about Clear Liquids.

Remember, all Drs are different. My Dr had me on Protein Shakes as I was leaving the recovery room ...

For what it's worth- its only my docs rules but depending on the phase you're at- I know when I beyond clear liquid phase I still need to get my liquids in and 32 of the 64 must still be clear. I like how my doc really outlines all of this for me. I'm the type of person that if a doc tells me to follow something I will. Otherwise, I make my own rules :). Just sharing my experience...

Oh and according to mine- Protein Shakes are not clear. I'm only allowed one per day right now - 1 week post op

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
