Pain Is Discouraging

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 8/29. Have done really well with eating,no nausea or vomiting, down 20 lbs.... At my 2 week post op visit my MD said the pain I was experiencing on my left side was normal. so I wasn't worried. Well it went away for a few days and IT'S BACK...

Couldn't get comfortable last night and the pain on my left side takes my breath away when I stand. Now instead of radiating into my hip it is going to my back...No it's not gas. It's as if when I stand there is something pulling at my insides..

I am a nurse and have gone back to work so I don't know if maybe I am doing to much or what is going on..

So discouraged I could cry!!!

Where is the pain? You said it radiates to your back, is it your flank? You should be doing a lot of Protein now and if you don't get enough fluids you could get a stone. Stone pain can radiate to the groin or to the back. I would see my doc and have a UA run. Not sure where you work, could you do a urine dip there?

I think you are doing too much. I'm 14 days out, myself, and last night I took my daughter to dance and I sat in the park in my favorite chair....she took too long...1.5 hours, instead of .5 hours, and I was done for! I was in tears, scared, hurting, and had to take pain meds twice last night. Nursing is a tough job...and to go back so soon is a lot.

Do you have a belly binder? Maybe wearing that while you run like a chicken with the head cut off will help give you some support.

I had that exact pain. It went away then came back with a vengence. it was horrible, then at 5 weeks it just disappeared one day. My surgeon said it was a pulled muscle from sneezing. It radiated right around my back and felt like my rib was pulling it. I had to be very careful how I moved or sat. Hang in there, it does get better!

Definately not flank pain...it's more muscular. I work in L&D..will dip my urine anyway....I just think I over did it again ugh.....

Mine id on my right side about an inch upward going diagonal toward my sternum. It always hurts when I sneeze or over do myself. My doctor told me that he does a wide stitch on the muscle layer to avoid the muscle suture line from being pulled on. He said this sometimes causes the muscle to "bunch up" there. This causes my muscle to not be able to stretch very much. He said it will resolve when the stitches dissolve around 6-8 weeks.

Well they did an X-ray and said its an Urinary Tract infection And a Kidney infection, I don't believe I have ever had either, anybody know what might have caused this?

Avillias- it could be lots of things but a few reasons it might happen would be Constipation which can block our ureters from draining our kidneys adequately. Also maybe dehydration because in the beginning it is so hard to get our fluids in.

I hope you start to feel better soon!!!

Regarding kidney and bladder infections...my daughter had so many huge stones and infections, that she was home with iv's and had to get government approval for the special antibiotics because they were still experimental. There is a lot to her kidney story, but the ultimate reason they said she got infections was from hiney germs getting into the urethra...but I beg to differ...I think the germs were in the stones and infected her from the inside out. Adults usually have the infections from germs, I was told. Drinking plenty of Water really helps, as well as fully emptying the bladder...and antibiotics....sometimes surgery if there are infectious stones present.

Thanks y'all, that helps a lot. I have only drank 2 Protein Drinks since surgery and I'll be a month post op on the 23rd and I'm only getting in between 16.9 fl oz Water and maybe another half bottle of that so on a good day 24 OZs of water, maybe that was the whole problem.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
