Gas Pain Revisited?!

Recommended Posts

6 weeks post op. have been fighting a sinus infection for the past month.. Still coughing like crazy and extremely hard to the point of pulling muscles in my side and throwing up. Nausea every day mostly mornings but does linger into afternoons especially when coughing a lot. And for the last 3 days my shoulders have hurt like the did when I first got out of sugery.. I'm thinking gas pains again but I don't know.. Anyone else revisit the gas pains several weeks out? I'm going to doc in AM so will ask then but was hoping I'm not alone... It's been a very very tough 6 weeks for me.

Sorry for the poor grammar and punctuation.. iPhone's are not the easiest word entry devices.

Sorry to hear about your setback. Let us know what your doctor says and prescribes. I am curious as to what medicines are safe for the sleeve. My surgeon said to take Tylenol Sinus for sinus problems, but I think there must be safe alternatives.

I went back to surgeon today. They were more concerned about the nausea and coughing than the shoulder pain. She did say that it was too far from surgery to have anything to do with that, however. They also think the coughing is what is causing the nausea and vomiting.. Ugh this is miserable!! I did go to my pcp also today and they prescribed cough meds with codeine.. Hopefully it will help.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
