Weight Loss Surgery Books Pre And Post

Recommended Posts

I was curious as to if anyone ever read any of the weight loss surgery books (For example weight loss surgery for dummies and etc). Are they worth purchasing? If so, what books do you suggest?

I did not read any commercial books. In my opinion, there is more than enough free information available on the internet and that helped me.

Well when you put it that way...You are so right... :D I have found alot of good information online. I was looking into a book for my mom who isn't really into computers. I know once I tell her I am having surgery, she is going to have a crap load of questions. So I thought a book would help with some of the questions....

I liked the Weight Loss for Dummies and the cookbook as well. My favorite book, though is :"the Everything Post Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook (All you need to meet and maintain your weight loss goals)" by Jennifer Whitock.

The price is 15.95, but I got mine on Amazon for 9.00.

You might go to your library, take a few books out and see if you like them, before buying any. That's what I did.

I didn't think "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" told me anything I hadn't already read, but for your mom, it might be good.

I read Before and After on my Nook, it was pretty interesting. I'm looking into print cookbooks; I guess I'm too old to use a screen in the kitchen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
