Type 1 Diabetics And Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Any type 1 diabetics on here that have had the sleeve? I'm curious about any sugar issues during recovery? Anything different than surgery and recovery for a non type 1 diabetic?

I was told by my surgeon if I had diabetes that he wouldnt do the sleeve, I would have to get the bypass. Other than that brief exchange Im not sure... Good luck!

There is a type 1 named Sweet Susie. She posts alot in the evenings. Hopefully, she'll see this post and answer. I'm type 2, so I don't know know if there is any difference, but I was able to stop my meds the day after surgery. My sugars aren't normal yet (120s), but my surgeon said I wouldn't need to take it anymore. Good Luck, I hope you get a response.

Hey there, here I am, lol. I have been a type one diabetic for 15 years, I got sleeved July 7 by Dr. Alvarez in Mexico. A great experience. Im down 34 pounds since preop and very happy! I went from taking 60 units of novolin N and R per day to 5-7 units a day, sometimes every other day. Now you probably will be a slow loser because we don't produce enough insulin, and u do need insulin to burn everything u eat. I may be wrong be ause every body is different , but slow losing is better than fast IMO. You feel better and take less meds which is great. I'm off my cholesterol and lisonopropil . Any questions just ask, ;)

Congrats on the 34lbs! That's wonderful????. I want to do this to get better control of my diabetes. I saw a surgeon but he only does bypass and lapband. I'm currently going through insurance approval for the bypass but I want to switch to the sleeve. Sounds great as far as being on less insulin. How have your blood sugars been post op? I'm scared that my sugar will get low and I'll have trouble correcting it...any issues there? I've been type 1 for 25 yrs. I've got about 60-70 lbs to lose.

My blood sugars are great. I had a really high a1c of 9.4 at my last check up before surgery, I'll have another checkup in a month or so and my BS's range 100-130, that is great for me! I loved so many things that I don't care for anymore and that makes me happy! As far as getting too low, u really have to adjust ur insulin to fit your doctors plan. Ask ur doctor, he/she will help u adjust ur meds. I'm also off of my cholesterol meds and lisonopropil . I never thought this would happen to me, and it did! My sugar dropped a few times and during the liquid stages I drank orange juice but that made me vomit, so i had glucose tablets and those always worked. I hope they approve the sleeve for you. I was going for the band at first and so glad I didn't after all my research.

I just got my approval for a bypass, now I guess I need to find a sleeve surgeon and see what I need to do to switch to a sleeve with insurance company. Any tips on switching to a different surgery?

How much have u lost? What are ur stats ? Sorry about the delayed response, but I've been out of town. I've plateaued twice. I went from 250 to 230 then plateaued 4 weeks then lost to 218, then again, 205 I plateaued and now I'm 196, so yeah I have... It stinks, but that's part of it. R u doing everything u r supposed to? If I can help let me know ;), just pm me

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
