Robyn Owens-Miille 132 Posted September 19, 2012 Had the official 3 month post-op gastric sleeve visit and weigh in today. Per doctor's scales -75 pounds and -50 inches!!! woohooo!!!! My bp was 120/70 with a heart rate of 56!!! I have never in my LIFE had a heart rate of 56!!!!. Labs: My A1C was perfect @ 5.8. I am low on Iron and Vitamin d so I have to supplement those now. Meds: Stop the lisinopril/hctz; add in Vitamin D and Iron. (That means NO prescription meds now except omeprazole and singulair!!! I was on 3 diabetes drugs- headed for insulin, blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds and 2 anti-depressants pre-op.) Diet: Up Protein intake to 100 grams a day, no more than 80 grams of carbs and (holy cow batman) don't exceed 800-1200 calories a day. But, he advised not counting calories, just count Protein and carbs and "everything will be fine." I'm ecstatic!!! (but I am wondering how on earth I'm supposed to eat 100 grams of protein a day). 1 xavtay2 reacted to this
isajck 229 Posted September 20, 2012 Congrats on that very positive visit! When you figure out how to get in 100 grams of Protein, please report back and inform me too! 1 Sheree reacted to this
Territravel 217 Posted September 20, 2012 Gee, that will be difficult, not impossible though. Maybe ALL your daily liquids should be Protein Drinks? Just kidding. I'm lucky to get 60-70 grams of Protein. Let us know what you work out!
Robyn Owens-Miille 132 Posted September 20, 2012 I'm going to try the Premier Protein shakes. My sister (also a VSG patient) gave me a couple to try. Will let you know what I figure out!
JackieV 246 Posted September 21, 2012 I am just starting this journey so I am not sure how good they would be, but Walmart has a brand of Protein Shakes with 42 grams. It's. 300 calories which seems high but that's 1/2 the Protein most of us will need.
KyPeach 10 Posted September 21, 2012 I ordered some Sunkist Protein Shots on-line and have 1 every day as soon as I wake up. Kind of syrupy sweet, but they're only 3 ounces and have 25 grams of Protein. Trying to reach 70 grams of protein a day seemed almost insurmountable at 1st, but with these it's not a problem. They also have some that are 24 grams that are maybe 1 ounce. That's what I meant to order!
Sheree 10 Posted September 21, 2012 wow! congrats! you are doing great. are you exercising? How much and doing what? Keep us posted. we are all waiting to see how you can get in 100 gms of protein!?
Robyn Owens-Miille 132 Posted September 22, 2012 I exercise 4 times a week. 25 minutes on the elliptical and then weight lift for about 45 minutes. I know the sunkist isn't the best variety of Protein for us but I thought about trying them. I can't gag down the whey Protein products.
