Surgery Date 9/17/12 What Are You Doing And Eating

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery on Monday and I have just been drinking Water and cream of chicken cambells Soups mixed with milk I also did a little Jello and pudding all sugar free. But I am worried I am not doing this right ..what is everyone else doing? Also my doctor gave me lortabs for pain in a pill rather than liquid is that ok?

Did your doctor say anything about Protein shakes? Mine has me on 2 ounces of ensure 3x a day for nutrients and then push Water, clear broth, sugar free Popsicles. This is my first two weeks. I'll see him for a follow up where he will let me know if it is ok to move onto pureed food such as baby food, apple sauce, refried Beans etc.

All of my meds have to be crushed or chewable. I don't know if loretab is a narcotic, but if so it will likely cause overdose if you crush it. Was there anyhing on paper, even before the surgery, that said anything at all?

I also had my surgery on Monday. Wow! The pain got much worse today. My doc has me on Clear liquids only for one week. So, broth, sugar free Jello, Water, crystal light, Powerade Zero, Fruit2O. And my pain medicine is liquid Lortab. No pills allowed, not even Vitamins. The gas/air in my belly is making me miserable. I can't burp like normal. I have gone one two walks today but not helping.

Are you guys having trouble when you drink anything? I've been struggling getting anything down because my stomach spasms and aches with the smallest amount of anything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
