Tried Refried Beans With Melted Cheese

Recommended Posts

I am 15 days post op and by day 5 I could not stand the smell of muscle milk or broth....my gag reflex would act up. I tried the shakes I was doing pre op and could not hold those down either...I tried MANY brands. I called the NUT and told her what was going on...I even tried greek yogurt and that came up too. I decided to try puree foods and that seemed to settle down and stay down. NUT told me it was ok as long as I did no veggies or fruit. I had my first post op and she told me it was fine to stay on phase 3 and even suggested a few alternatives.

Yes I didn't kno the big difference in the phases post op until I got to this app. My dr has me on full liquids for 4weeks, purée for 2weeks, and soft foods for 1week. After that I am to slowly introduce regular foods.

I am just over 7 days post op as well. I was moved onto soft foods yesterday at my one week post op class and refried Beans are one of our okayed foods. Just don't over eat and you will be good!

I am on Day 7 and supposed to be on "full liquids" for 10-14 days. However, yesterday I had some refried Beans and today I had a runny scrambled egg. I needed something extra. I am definitely not going overboard. I know myself. I see my surgeon Monday and I'll tell him and see what he says. Maybe I can move onto soft foods sooner.

Wow what differences. And yes I did read expert advice jn a few posts

Every doctor is different

I had no liquids for 24 hours

Then I had liquids in hospital

Once I got home I was on puree stage and there I stayed for 2 weeks. Then soft food.

It seems to me that the only expert opinion is that of the doctor. It scares me that so many people are encouraging others to move faster than the surgeon has directed. Oddly, making poor food choices is what put most of us in this position in the first place. But hey, what do I know? ;)

A few bites of eggs or Beans isn't worth the risk, IMO. Real food will still exist when the doctor gives his/her ok, I'm sure.

Well today is my 7 day post op. I have felt great since day 3!! I am so ready to move on to puréed foods but don't see my doctor until the 25th. So this evening for supper I had 2 tbsp of refried Beans with a tiny bit of shredded cheese melted on top. I hope that wasn't a huge no no, but it sounded so good!!!!

It settled fine and tasted great!!! I too am on a full liquid diet but when I left the hospital my dr told me I could try puréed when I was ready. It made me very satisfied and full!! I have also tried a scrambled egg with a 1/2 piece of Kraft singles melted in it like two days ago and did well with that but was only able to eat 1tbsp cuz I felt so full. Today for Breakfast I smashed up a little hunk of a real banana and slowly ate that as well.

So, uhhmmmm... If your doctor told you you could try puréed foods when you were ready, why were you "hoping it wasn't a huge no no"? Seems to me the doc left your nutritional decisions in your hands. :D

I don't think anyone had encouraged anyone to move faster. Nearly all the posts have said to rely on Dr's advice. My post just shared what I did; I definitely would never give advice in place of Dr

Every plan is different and every tummy is different. At 7 days out I could not do that. But your doctor said that you could try pureed and you did. Glad it worked out for you. Listen to your tummy honey, lol.

My Nutritionalist told me at my post op appointment (day 8) that I could go to soft foods...retried Beans, avocado, banana, scrambled eggs, etc. And that I wouldn't hurt my sleeve as long as I didn't eat more than 2 T. It is so funny how doctors are so different. Maybe it depends on the person somehow? I don't know...but the recommendations seem to fluctuate drastically.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
