Same, I stayed one night in the hospital (California) and was able to shower that next morning. They wrapped up my stomach in what looked like plastic wrap, but it was nice to feel fresh and clean!

Same here, I showered the next morning in the hospital. I didn't even think to bring my own shower products and wish I had. The stuff they had to use was crap. I had the glued on strips and didn't have to cover anything when I showered. I had to wash my abdomen very gently since it was quite sore. I was exhausted after, but felt so much better. The stuff they made me wash with prior to surgery was so itchy!

I too was able to shower the next day. Steri strips kept incisions dry.

I showered the day I left, was in for 2 nights. I waited until they took out my IV and all the things hooked up to me. I did bring deodorant and baby or fresh clean wipes to use before I showered. They helped tons! They did tell me I could shower the day after but it sounded like a big ordeal with all the things hooked up to me!

Good luck on your surgery!!!

I showered the following day. My surgeon used Dermabond (super glue for skin) on my incisions so it was no big deal to get wet. I would bring my own shower stuff and pj's.... I felt so much better after a shower, clean jammies and a little make up LOL

I had an incision that wouldn't quit bleeding so they wouldn't let me shower. I had surgery on a Tuesday & showered Thursday when I got home. :-)

Yeah, I had to keep the incisions from getting wet, but I showered a couple hours after my surgery. It was pure joy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
