Help - 3 days post op w/ major shoulder pain

Recommended Posts

I am 3 days post op and have MAJOR pain in my left shoulder. I know its the CO2 gas, but will it ever stop? I have been walking every hour for about 5-10 minutes. It seems to hurt worst when I am walking and only get some relief when I lay directly on my left shoulder. Can anyone provide suggestions??? How long will this last????

I used Tums, quick dissolve. I didn't have tummy gas, but my shoulder ached for months after surgery. Don't forget to walk a lot that helps too.

I was really surprized how much pain I had in my left shoulder as well. I think mine lasted like almost a month! My Dr. said ICE is better than heat. Hang in there, I know that feeling really sucks, it will go away, eventually!

CONGRATS on your band!

My gas has all been in my abdomen. I remember when I had my gall bladder out in 1997 I had such bad gas pain in my shoulders. It was horrible.

I wish I had a suggestion for you on how to deal with the pain but I am lost myself. Just hang in there. This too shall pass...no punn intended.

I had terrible gas pains in my left shoulder for at least 6 weeks.... Sometimes it comes back. I did go and have an MRI just to be sure. They said I have tendonosis but in the joints but the gas pain is in between, not in my joints. I read someone elses post who said it was a sign that they were full or needed to stop eating (for me my mouth starts drooling). Gasx really didnt help much but give it a try.

Good luck, seems there are lots of us who suffer.....

Heating pad worked wonders. I carried it from room to room. The first several months after surgery it was definitely my full signal. I get a little twinge now and then when I'm full, but not painful like it was after surgery.

My doctor told me that staying VERY well hidrated will help the gas to absorb quicker so I did and didnt have any gas pain after my second day post op.
