first of all hello to everyone. my name is eric and this is my first post here thought i would post my experience. it was nothing out of the ordinary i really didnt have any complications. except my surgery was about 3 hours because i also had an imbelical hernia fixed and the hernia was bigger than the dr expected. didn't really have any pain stomach wise in recovery. just my back realy hurt and i wanted to sit up but they wouldnt let me. so for me i didnt have any actuall pain more of a sore feeling . felt like i was hit in the stomach with a baseball bat! i even asked the dr if a baseball bat was one of his tools and he said no a 2x4 O_o . i was walking to the bathroom 3 hours after surgery and walking outside my room 5 hours after. and was sent home around 3pm the next day. as of today. 8 days post op and i feel im about 90 percent back to normal!

when i first started my options class i was 419 day of surgery i was 393 and as of today i am 366!!!

Congratulations on a complication-free surgery and on your weight loss. Twenty-seven pounds in nine days is spectacular. What are you doing to achieve that?

Congrats! I had surgery the same date! I am feeling a little bit better each day. I go back to the doctor tomorrow and hope to move on to pureed food, I am sick of the Protein shakes.

You have really done well with your weight loss, that has to make you feel good. A week after surgery I am finally back to my pre-surgery weight. I was in the hospital 3 nights and apparently all of the IV fluids got me off to a slow start.

Good luck for continued success!

Thanks everybody! As for my diet my first two days home was broth, Jello, pudding, and popsickles. After i added creame Soups for about three days. Then felt great and almost normal even tried scrambled egg with no problem so got brave and tried wendys chilli =-O i had no problem with it. And asked my dr if that was ok and if i can move to soft foods and he said no!! So now im trying home made chicken noodle and i put it in a blender...

Im taking a month of work and feel like i can return next week!! But still taking a month because of the herniA want to be carefull with that.

Yes i have kaiser. Had options at the west covina kaiser senter..and my surgery was at harber city kaiser . With dr gary belzberg. Heard great things about him. And even changed my original dr from west la kaiser to be with him.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
