Paying For Surgery

Recommended Posts

I set my date for March 28th,2013 with Dr. Kelly in TJ. It gives me a deadline to save, use tax refund and will take a small loan from 401K if it becomes necessary.

Husbands bonus - and used air miles to get where we needed to fly- and points for rooms in San Diego for our extra days! Ended up being a great deal- now just saving for plastics! :)

Cheers everyone <3

I did Flexible Spending Plan through my work. Spread it out over a year. So it wasn't that much of a inconvenience for my family. You might want to inquire if you have it at work. Plus it saves on taxes:)

I have this as well..never thought of trying that route..do you know if there is a limit to the amount you can have or if I could use it for surgery done in Mexico?

No you don't. To legaly get Medicaid you basicly have to be destitute. And I'm sure your integrity is of enough importance to not want it illegally.

In reference to Medicaid you don't have to be dirt poor. Your family could have a need and if you fit within the guidelines you qualify for some assistance. Now im this case if you don't have enough coverage through your employer you can qualify for something called third party insurance. Look into it this is NOT Illegal you can show that you qualify. There are things set in place for you to use you just have to use the resources that you have.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
