Surgery In Two Weeks, Pre Op Starts Tomorrow - Dallas Tx

Recommended Posts

I have been waiting for almost eight months for mine. I finally got the ok from the insurance five days ago. I scheduled the surgery two weeks from tomorrow. I start my new diet tomorrow. Recently everything has been moving so fast. I'm really excited and scarred at the same time. I'm 5'1 and weigh 200 pounds. To many it might be crazy that I'm doing a sleeve but they only see the 200 and not the fact that I'm short, really short for the weight. I really do not have anybody to share what I'm feeling so I'm glad I found this forum. Schedule date for the surgery is Oct 2. Does anyone have any good shakes that they recommend?

Congrats on getting everything set to go. I am in my 2 week pre op diet right now. not enjoying it but it is a means to an end. Good luck as things progress. liquids got easier by day 3-4. I just get six star from Walmart. Not in love or hate with them.

I am right here with you. My surgery is scheduled for the 3rd of October and my pre-op diet starts Wednesday. Super scared and excited; glad this is here to make friends and share experiences.

I like the Pure Protein Shakes that I buy at Sam's Club. My best advice, though, is to NOT buy a lot of any one shake until after surgery because your tastes WILL change. Nothing tasted good to me post-op, although there were several Protein powders and shakes I liked pre-op. I finally resorted to using up the last of my Protein Powder as "creamer" in my coffee.< /p>

tQ I am in Dallas too and did the surgery at end if august. I was 195 and 5'5" so u aren't crazy. I new I had to do something because years of yoyo dieting wasn't working. As for shakes I use out fast vanilla and love it with PB2 added. Tastes like a Peanut Butter shake and if you use skim milk it has 28 grams of protein! But it's a Meal Replacement shake too so I get lots of other Vitamins as well. Can order on Amazon. Also for straight Protein I like gold standard vanilla ice cream shake mix from GNC. Hope that helps.

I'm really concern because my doctor gave me a pre op diet to follow. I must have 1200 cal with only one meal, the rest with shakes and bars. Today I had two shakes of 110 cal each and three bars with a total of 460 cal. My one meal only came to 200 calories. My concern is that my total cal intake was about 700 calories and 70g of Protein. Does anybody know if this is still ok?

Yes it is great. My diet was 4-5 shakes a day and NO MEALS! That is about 800 calories. I lost 20 pounds Pre op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
