Help! What would you do?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am just about 8 days from banding, and I have just started dating a great guy that I really like. I am obviously going to have to tell him that I am getting this procedure, but I'm not sure when/how is best. We've only been out two times, but it looks like there will certainly be more dates. Being on a liquid diet for 3-4 weeks will make it tough to hide the procedure until we're further along in the dating. So - I was hoping I could get some feedback. Maybe from some people who have had a similar situation, or just have some good advice.

I know that if he's a good guy he won't have a problem with it, and if he does he's not worth it, and if it's meant to be it's meant to be. I'm just not sure how to bring it up without just blurting out that I'm having weight loss surgery. That may be the best option, but I'm curious to see what you all think.

Thank you!

Chrispy

Hi Chrispy!

I'm a blurt it kinda gal. I might lead into with a "this is a bit awkward..." or, "Let's plan our dates around anything but food, for now...". I sure understand your question, and hope he's a good guy and an understanding guy. He'll probably want to know if you'll ever be able to enjoy dining out again...and you will! You'll be a cheap date!

I hope things go very well for you!

Why not be honest? He clearly likes you for who you are and not what you weigh so don't you think he would be supportive of your efforts to lead a healthy life? Tell him the truth.

yes tell him if he likes you he will support you and he could be a gr8 help and a fantastic future partner for you. if hes not happy with your decision then hes no good any way, its best to find out his thoughts now at this early stage, than worrying later when you had your op. go 4 it tell him i would in your position, good luck !!

Thanks ladies. Guess there is no other way than to come right out and say it. As I've said before - it's a wonderful problem to have!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
