My name is Kevin, I had the sleeve done 3 weeks ago by Dr Kelly. I am very pleased doing great so far, still deal with mental hunger (which I expected to be honest). I weighed in for surgery at 530lbs and as of this morning (3 weeks and 1 day post op) am officially 40lbs down. Still run out of gas by noon but getting better last week I was dragging by 10:00 Am. I'm thinking of holding off going on pureed food to keep the accelerated weight loss rolling, any thoughts. Just found this site good luck to everyone.

Welcome Kevin and congrats on the 40 lbs. I don't know that staying on liquid will make the weight loss any faster. I actually think you'll start losing more when your body knows you're not starving it and starts letting go of the fat cells. I would ask your nutritionist. Good luck to you.

Welcome to VST! I agree that you need to move forward with your diet. Your sleeve is a muscle that needs to be worked, just do it according to your doctor's plan. Good luck with your journey! :)

We just bought one of the Montel Williams health masters for getting veggies when I am able, my family swears by the thing so we will see the blender will even make hot Soup from cold veggies lol

Sleeve brother Kevin,

Doesnt it feel great to watch that scale go down?? Believe me, progressing with your diet will not make it stop. The big trick is being aware of what you put in your body, and abstaining from garbage foods.

How are you doing on your Protein & Water intake? Are you taking any sort of Vitamins? If you are getting plenty of water/liquids(80-100oz/day or more) and plenty of protein(80g+) then I would definately recommend adding some mushies. Stuff like egg whites, low fat cottage cheese, refried Beans and the like are going to be beneficial for you. The trick is to avoid the empty carbs & starches like, Pasta, rice, breads, potatoes. Also try to avoid drinking calories as much as possible, your protein is an obvious exception to this but you can also focus on lower calorie Protein Shakes.

I feel confident saying that you are going to be fine, the self control & dedication you are already showing says it all. Congrats on your surgery & your success thus far. And welcome to our little community.

Hi Kevin,

Welcome! Like OT said, the weight will fall off, and you'll feel better with more nutrients in your system.

Enjoy the ride! It's a wild one! :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
