Getting Nervous

Recommended Posts

I'm 23 years old and having my sleeve October1. I start my pre op diet today and I guess its just all hitting me now. I know I can handle the diet before and after surgery.

My biggest concern now is the loose skin I'm reading about from people. I know since we are young it bounces back better and faster but how much of a problem has everyone had with this?

I have some loose skin, but it's worth it to be 120 pounds lighter than I was!!!

I'm Oct 1, as well, cdscott. My doc didn't give me a pre-op diet. The nutritionist I had an appointment with suggested to drink SF Carnation Instant Breakfast for Breakfast & lunch and eat a sensible dinner (low fat, low carb, etc.)

What does your pre-op consist of -- all liquids or what?

As far as the loose skin - heck you are only 23 yrs old -- you should be fine. I was at that age when I lost, uh,... gosh it was a lifetime ago, ... I really don't remember how much it was  . you'll be fine youngun'.

I start my pre op diet on the 1st and my surgery is on the 22nd october. I'm pretty nervous but excited.

My doctor said I don't need to worry about loose skin because I'm only 20 so I don't think you need to worry about it. I have been thinking about it though and if it turns out really bad once I've lost the weight then I will probably have the skin removed.

My preop diet is two Protein Shakes and 1 "meal" consisting of 4 oz. Protein and 1 cup of any non starchy vegetable. Day one wasnt bad at all. I had tilapia and lettuce with lite vinegarette and for my protein I'm mixing carnation instant breakfast with 8oz skim milk and 1 scoop of Unjury unflavored protein. Totals 28 or 32 grams protein can't remember. The unflavored from them really is unflavored and I already drank cib before so I like the taste

reading your suggestion, cd, about the Protein in the drink made me think -- it sort of sounded familiar. So I went and got my notes and that is what the nutritionist had said. Either a Protein shake or SF Carnation Instant Breakfast with some Protein Powder in it. Either way, guess I missed some Protein on Monday  since I only had the SF CIB.

Last night had fish for dinner with broccoli. Tonight had shrimp with fresh green Beans.

Hey! I'm also 20 and have the same surgery date! Same as you, I'm nervous and excited about it. I start my pre-op diet on the 12th.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
