The Last Few Hours Of The Countdown !

Recommended Posts

Well, my bag for the hospital is ready to zip up, the car is fueled up for the 3 hour drive to the hospital, Protein laden popcicle's and broths are in the freezer, various Vitamin Water zero and crystal light in the fridge, dog sitter is all lined up to take care of my hairy children, prescription for pain meds is filled, and my nerves are officially on the razor's edge ! :o Been wearing my not so spiffy hospital Bracelet since Friday and I'm having the expected huge OMG am I really doing this anxiety attack  Told my sister in law yesterday (swore her to secrecy), and who do I get a call from this evening ??? My mother in law ! So much for sworn secrecy... I definitely won't miss the miserable gallbladder, but I'm SO afraid I'll never be able to enjoy food again... I'm taking my little netbook computer with me so PLEASE CHIME IN !!! I'm fortunate to have 2 people going with me, but not so fortunate in that one thinks this surgery is no big deal (never had any weight issues, or any surgeries) and the other thinks anyone can lose weight if you just starve yourself, take diuretics, and do weekly colonics (like she has done for 50 years), but I love 'em anyway... I'll try to post an update Tuesday afternoon as drugs permit :P All prayers, good thoughts, or cyber lucky charms will be greatly appreciated !!!

You're gonna do great. You are prepared and have four legged hairy babies waiting for you back home. They will be so lucky you will be walking them a lot. Keep us posted and post pictures of the dogs!

The anticipation can be terrible; a lot more than the surgery warrants. All will be well and keep thinking about how much healthier you are going to be.

I was a basket case the morning of surgery. A 35 year old grown man having hysteria. It's funny to me now though. In a couple weeks you'll look back and chuckle. If I can offer you some advice don't go into this thinking you'll never have food you love. If you do that's all you will focus on these next few weeks which are the hardest. I speak from experience. I'm week 3 now but the first week I made myself miserable focusing on what I couldn't have that got me to this point. The truth is you will one day have what you love. Just not a lot of it and possible slightly modified. Focus on positive thoughts and enjoy the ride.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
