Spousal support?

Recommended Posts

Boy, I love this forum. I'm a newbie, still dealing with insurance, research, etc. But I have decided.

My concern is hubby. We are both compulsive overeaters and enable each other way too much. But he does, especially. I am so worried that he will "try to help" by encouraging me to do the wrong thing. (For instance, yesterday I had a bellyache and he fixed himself something - asked me 3 times if I wanted some even though I clearly said no and he had already said it was probably not something I would want if I was sick. But he just wouldn't drop it.)

On my part, my co-dependency kicks in and I say to myself "well, if he doesn't care, why should I".

I am concerned that he will resent losing his partner in crime and try to passive-agressively subvert my progress.

I know this is not unusual among family/friends. Have any of you dealt with this?

Hi Jenna,

Have you talked about the surgery and the changes it's going to make in your eating with him? Has he been supportive so far? Perhaps having him go to a support meeting with you would help too. My husband was also a partner in eating crime :) but, he's been so supportive on my band and to boot he's lost 37 pounds along with my weight loss. We make better choices together although....when he wants he can eat those oreos, ice cream and other things I choose not to eat. Most of the things that got us into trouble are no longer in the house but, I have a teenager so we do have chips, Cookies and a few other things. Most of our Snacks are whole wheat items such as wheat things, wheat crackers or multigrain chips and sugar free items like sf pudding and Jello. I have some sting cheese and always keep a couple boiled eggs and deli turkey around. Maybe some of these will help you too :peep: I wish you the best in your journey.

My DH is overweight, but has been completely supportive of me as I lose. He has been understanding about the changes I've needed to make about how and what I eat. We have already overcome some of our co-dependency issues years ago when we dealt with different addictions, so perhaps that has something to do with the success we are having with this change?

I think it's great that you are aware of the possible problem, and are already thinking about it? It can only help!
