Is This Normal? Help!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved last Monday. It ihas been smooth sailing until today. I moved to Full liquids (protein drinks, no chunk low fat creamy Soup, etc) and I am having a really hard time.

I am wondering if it is normal to get this crampy feeling after eating? I am thinking that I am going to go back to Clear Liquids and try again tomorrow.

Has anyone else had this crampiness when moving to a new phase?

i feel it is normal. your plan to go back to clears is exactly what you should do. your stomach may not be ready for full liquids yet.

Felt it too. I went back to clear and tried again the next day. Also I only did 1oz at a time. I used a baby spoon and held the Soup and my mouth for a few sec before attempting to swallow it. I relaxed and took my time.

Thanks, LaBelle - it makes me feel better that other people have expereinced this. I am using the baby spoon but may be going to fast. I will try it your way tomorrow.

Great tip!! Thank you

All fluids cramped me in the begging, I had to drink warm tea and that was the only thing that didn't make me cramp

I'm definitely feeling it too! I find the warm liquids dont cause the same reaction as cool ones. It has gotten better though, happening less and less every day. If it does happen, I tilt my head back and it goes away super quick.

Hang in there, in just a matter of days, we will start to feel much better I hope!

I have that sometimes now and I am 5 months out. I still have a tendency to gulp and that is my problem. It will get better, I promise, hang in there!

Totally normal! And the other people are right, go back to clear. You really don't want to get dehydrated. Just because the doc says you can start full, doesnt mean you HAVE to.

Good luck!!

Thank you for all of the reassurance.

I am going back to clears - I am using a sippy cup and that really helps me get all of my fluids in. I am going to focus on that and then try full liquids again tomorrow going slower. If that doesn't work I will just keep going back to clears until I can tolerate the full liquids.

I am just relieved that I am not the only one that experiences this - you know sometimes it feels very lonely...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
