Hello!

I am new to the forum. I had my surgery on Wed 9/12/12. It went well - only took about 40 minutes! My starting weight was 265 lbs, surgery day it was 253, and yesterday it was 251. Up until today I haven't felt too great. I suppose that is to be expected, but I was hopeful that I would be one who would sail right through it. ;) I have 5 incisions but only one, the "big" one hurts. Its better today, but getting up from laying down is still very hard. I've been kind of woozy, but that seems to be easing up a bit. And my stomach gurgles all the time!! I think that is driving me the craziest! I am taking prevacid so hopefully that will get it under control soon. TUMS seem to help as well. Today I'm up and around a lot more which is good. I am finding it hard to get the Protein, Water and calories in right now though! I am averaging 2 Protein Shakes a day, maybe 24 oz of water or other liquid, and 1/4-1/2 cup of strained Soup or yogurt, applesauce. I'll be so happy when I can something like cottage cheese! Any suggestions for the gurgles?post-4131-13813670627412_thumb.jpg

You only had your surgery on wednesday you are not expected to get all the Protein in. I don't start my shakes until tuesday and I had the surgery on monday two days before you. My tummy is gurgling too, remember it is healing. Don't rush the food, your tummy has gone through a major trauma and needs to heal take it slow.

Thanks for the reminders and tips! I know I am being rather impatient and unrealistic. I am just ready to feel back to normal already! Anyway, glad to be part of this group - very helpful. :)

Keep in mind that no two people are alike and I hate to burst your bubble but.....

At almost 6 months post op my stomach still gurgles, growls and emotes. It's like a freak show in itself.

It gurgles cause its empty, cause it's full or when it's working on dense Proteins or junk, when I'm standing, sittin or laying down.... Bottom line is that its LOUD AND PROUD no matter what!! Lol!

I am six weeks out and my stomach makes really loud gurgles and other crazy sounds after I eat or even just drink a lot. We call it "Chewie" because it truly sounds like Chewbacca sometimes.

LMBO....hahahaha! Im the same way....altho I am 9 months out. I keep wondering when it will stop! Sometimes, I can feel the gurgles coming on during a meal (so when I am around others, I try to disguise the noise by creating a distraction...lol). My hubby and I call them "dinosaur noises". hehehe!

It was about 4-5 weeks before my stomach stopped gurgling all the time. It still gurgles sometimes now, but not quite as loudly and not as often.

Do your gurgles sometimes seems to make your belly feel hungry??

That's happened to me, but I had just eaten 30 minutes before, so I knew I couldn't be hungry. The gurgling feels like hunger, though.

I think my sounds are just my stomach processing food. It does it now even with liquids. My husband loves to listen to it. He gets a good laugh out of every day :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
