I Need Help....

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Wednesday and was schedule to go back to work on that Monday. The surgery was painful then I thought it would be so I took 2 more days off and went back on Wednesday. It I needed to I probably could have went back but I just decided I needed more time.

I had a hard time sleeping and had to sleep the first 4 days in the recliner. The extra two days gave me some time to just work around the house and walk around the stores. This help me gauge how I would do at work. On Wednesday I did perfectly. I set my own schedule so if I didn't feel well I could have left at anytime. Right now I get tired easily and must go to be way eariler then I did before surgery

Congrats on your upcoming surgery..

I had my surgery on Sept 11th, Monday, and went back to work on Sept 13th, Wednesday. Was it too soon? Maybe a day too early. I worked about 6 hours (mostly desk job) and called it a day..

I only told one person at my office that I was having this surgery... I am a private person in some respects and just decided that not telling at this point was what was best for me..

Knowing that I was going to try like heck to get back to work on Wednesday, I did what I could to make sure I had the best chance possible. I started walking almost immediately after I got to my hospital room after surgery.. I only took the heavy duty pain meds one time on day 1 (when going to bed to ensure a good night's sleep). Took them twice in the hospital the next day, then pretty much switched to liquid tylenol...The walking, I think, was "key". I had a bowel movement (a couple) before i left the hospital. I think the walking just helped to get things moving all around..i cant stress that enough to anyone. I did have gas, but the walking also helped as well.. Even today (almost two weeks post op) I still get a little twinge in my left shoulder but overall it wasnt that bad for me..

Also, I followed my nutritionist's eating plan to the letter (and am still doing so), and I think "not cheating" or a thinking "just a little taste of this wont hurt" has helped as well.

Good luck!!

Sherry

Everyone recovers from surgery differently. I was laid off from work just prior to my surgery, but if I had been working, I know I would have been off for a minimum of a week. It took me 2-3 weeks before I really began feeling like my old self.

Have you ever had surgery before? If so, how long did it take you to recover. That may be and indicator of how quickly you recover from this one. Anesthesia has always thrown me for a loop, and I always take at least a week or more to recover from any type of surgery I have had.

LOL I had the IV problem also. I put 3 bandaids over it and said I burned myself ironing. It worked.

Hi there...

I just had my band done on Friday Sept 22. I can honestly say that I would not be ready to go back to work on Monday morning. Yes each day it does get a little better but the gas pain has keep me down and also where my port is, is very sensitive. If you have it on Thrusday and go back to work Wednesday maybe but I personally think monday would be a bit much.

Who says you have to tell work what you are having done. I told a few people at the nursing home I work at what I was having done but for the most part I just said I have to have some laprosocpic surgery. Actaully the day of my surgery my work called to see if I could come in. Only the schedualing department new I was having surgery so when another nurse called while I was in surgery she was rather suprised.

If anyone says this is the easy way out just tell them politly that you value their opinion but you have to do what is best for you. If having the procedure prevents you from a major heart attack down the road then it has done it's job.

Having the procedure is a tool, it's not a free ticket to skinny vill...

Good luck in the up coming month and no matter what you decide to tell them remember we are all here for you!!!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
