Many many people on here have had wonderful experiences with Mexican surgeons, and would be glad to council you in this area. My biggest concern in this, is how does an American hold these docs accountable if something does go wrong once you're home? They can hang up the phone and pretend like they've never heard of you. Is there, indeed, any legal recourse in that situation? I ask because I am uneducated on this matter, but it's one that I think you should find the answer to if you are considering surgery in Mexico.

Before I get flamed- let me be clear: I am NOT knocking Mexican surgeons. I'm am merely questioning legal matters.....

I haven't had my surgery yet but I am very comfortable with my choice in surgeon Dr.Garcia in Tijuana. I had done a lot of research as well as looked and read a lot of feedback.

I am paying $4700, The price covers ground transport to and from San Diego, your pre-operative lab work, physical, pre-operative 1 hotel night, your hospital stay (2 nights ), post op x-ray, 2 nights of post op hotel and all post-op medications it includes everything except your airfare.

I just gave my $500 deposit and the rest is due when I arrive.

Dr.Garcia works out of MiDoctor, a full service hospital, with ICU, 800 number to call back the States for free, cafeteria for companion , high speed internet, in-house pharmacy www.hospitalmidoctor.com

and Dr. Garcia has done over 4,000 procedures, great bariatric experience and excellent skills. Also there are 2 patient assistants to look after your needs at the hospital and hotel.

There are many great doctors in Mexico, so just do your research and pick the one that you feel fits you best! Good luck on your choice :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
