Ellis0921 7 Posted September 16, 2012 I know that I need to be working out but I feel so out of place at the gym. I really wish that there was someone in my area to get together with. I need more motivation to go... HELP!
dar1983 751 Posted September 16, 2012 JUST DO IT! I know that sounds so cliche, but its true. I totally understand your apprehensions. Hold your head high, wear a great outfit, and just start. Maybe you can join a place and go midday when there are perhaps more women to make you feel better. (although, some of our sex are not so nice). People MIGHT turn their heads to check out the new girl, but after a while, no one will care. Especially the guys...they are too busy checking themselves out in the mirror to be concerned with you! Good luck!
NDN_RN 527 Posted September 16, 2012 I started working last monday out after 4 years of nothing. I joined Planet Fitness, the trainer took me and trained me on all the resistance machines for the areas I want to target. i felt a little odd, but there are college muscleheads, grannies, and fluffies like me. Now I don't care, and I add a New Machine every other day. I have lost 6 pounds in the last 6 days, it keeps me on my diet and I am drinking tons of water( was a diet pepsi addict). You can do it! Debvzw 48 Posted September 16, 2012 I started my exercise routine by walking on an outside trail at our county park. Once it started getting too hot to be outside I invested in a treadmill because I too feel out of place at the gym. Buying the treadmill was the best thing I could have done. I do 40 minutes of walking 5 - 6 days a week. Find what works best for you and just do it. :-)
Squisha 99 Posted September 16, 2012 What about a curves or something similar that is women only. I joined the rec center where i am, it is cheap and i go during the day and there is never more than 2 or 3 other people there. I also did the YMCA (just can't afford it right now) and was always super friendly people there, and alot of them are there trying to lose weight, never felt judged. IsaacsGram 58 Posted September 16, 2012 I work out at the Wellness Center that is affiliated with my local hospital-there are cardiac rehab patients and people from young to very old and I feel much more comfortable there than at a traditional gym. Most hospitals-especially larger ones have workout centers available to the general public for much cheaper rates than most gyms. 1 vsginnj reacted to this
luckylady131 51 Posted September 16, 2012 I've been a member of Lifetime Fitness for years. Would go in spurts - some spurts longer than others. I'm now almost 7 weeks postop and I just started going back last week. I joined TEAM Weightloss, which is a small group of people (there are about 5-6 woman in my group) and we meet 3 times a week with a personal trainer, and also a dietician weekly. It's a 12 week long program. So far it's been kicking my butt. But I love it! 1 Ellis0921 reacted to this
