Sugar Free Hard Candy After Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I have been using SF hard candies since the pre op diet, and let me tell you, they have SAVED my butt!! NOTE: I did NOT use them post op for about six weeks, just in case I swallowed them!

They have kept me sane on days when my calories are used up for the most part and my mouth is "bored." I'll usually get SF werther's or SF Jolly Ranchers, or SF lifesavers. My loss has not been hindered in the least by them.

Good for you!

Sanity is worth fighting for.

I think many of us stray outside the fences of fanatical weight loss orthodoxy. I know that I will take a bite of just about anything to assure myself that I am not in a straight-jacket. The difference now is that I do not keep biting, I savor the bite and go on with my life without slamming destructive quantities.

I do not want to lose my losing. ;)

I'm with you on that one.

It makes me sad, all the people on here who say "I was at a birthday party and I couldn't resist -- I ate 2 bites of birthday cake!! I am such a failure!!". That's just not realistic to me.

It's great if you are in frame of mind to decline the cake and are planning to hit the gym before bedtime, but life doesn't always work like that.

I use stevia for sweetener' date=' it's all natural. I have vanilla and chocolate and original for my shakes and I'm going to order the stevia drinks also. I stopped the crystal light because it is so bad for u and can stall weightloss. Totally different than hard candy but I wanted to add that in there because hard candy even if it's sugar free really is worst for u because of the sugar alcohols and carbs, and everything else lol.[/quote']

Can you explain in more detail why Crystal

light can stall a weight loss?

Thanks!

Crystal light is made from artificial sweeteners and contains aspartame, IMO it's like having soda without the carbonation. I talked to my doctor and he said I shouldn't be using artificial anymore once I got to solid foods. It was ok during the liquid stages but now I should be drinking Water and unsweetened tea, I am allowed stevia since its all natural. You can google artificial sweeteners and it gets into more detail.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
