My nut says no gum or hard candy, if you swallow inadvertently could cause a big problem

I was told they were fine. Just be careful not to overdo it and not to swallow them.

@gmanbat, I had a really good laugh at that one. Since surgery I have not had any sweets (sugar free or otherwise) or fried anything. I did this for 2 reasons: so not to encounter any more discomfort then i have to and i would probably slip down the slippery slope back into old habits. However, every one is different and will have their own path to the same goal - to be healthy. Good luck to you.

http://www.livestron...ining-sorbitol/

Here is a link to the foods containing and the side effects of sorbital. I eat these foods occasionally but in very limited quantities. My Roux N Y wife likes sugar-free chocolate and I cringe when she eats it because I know what's coming later.

I would try to stop her but that would be bad for MY health. :(

I use stevia for sweetener, it's all natural. I have vanilla and chocolate and original for my shakes and I'm going to order the stevia drinks also. I stopped the crystal light because it is so bad for u and can stall weightloss. Totally different than hard candy but I wanted to add that in there because hard candy even if it's sugar free really is worst for u because of the sugar alcohols and carbs, and everything else lol.

I have been using SF hard candies since the pre op diet, and let me tell you, they have SAVED my butt!! NOTE: I did NOT use them post op for about six weeks, just in case I swallowed them!

They have kept me sane on days when my calories are used up for the most part and my mouth is "bored." I'll usually get SF werther's or SF Jolly Ranchers, or SF lifesavers. My loss has not been hindered in the least by them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
