I am almost through with all the hoops and I am freaking out a little. The wait won't be long once I submit all my stuff. Ok now what I am freaking about is allthe Bad Stories I have been reading and there seems to be a lot lately. I am an anxious person and I am thinking about not going forward because I am afraid I will die as a result of this surgery...I have been reading Iggy Chick's story and it is freaking me out seriously. I am 32 and have 3 young kids I have hypertension and sleep apnea so far and I am now hypothyroid due to having half of mine removed.I really want this but I am so influenced by negative stories.Anyone else going through this or went through this and are out on the other side?

I am nine days post op with absolutely no complications! I feel great and am so glad I did this! Remember the bad stories you hear are the1%.... 99% come out just fine with maybe a few hiccups like nausea, acid reflux, etc and those subside... You are at greater risk staying the way you are with hypertension, sleep apnea and probably a knee and hip replacement which are by far more dangerous surgeries... Insurance companies would not be picking up the tab for these surgeries if their benefits did not outweigh the risks.. As long as you have a good surgeon you will be fine! Do your kids and YOURSELF a favor and follow through with it!! Best of luck and we are here to support you!!

Most of the stories hear will be bad. As another user posted on another thread, are u going to

Be reading in the paper about the thousands of airplanes that land safely everyday? Or will u just hear about the 1 that didn't. Will u see on the news about the millions of people that drove safely to and from work everyday? Or will u hear about that 1 deadly crash? Yes there are many bad stories on here but a lot of great ones that no

One really posts..because who wants to

Hear about VSG being all flowers and sunshine? Lol

Keep in mind that yes it's a major operation and yes there are risks involved but the statistics are on ur side!! Say a prayer (if u pray) and go

Into this whole heatedly:)

I had some complications pnemonia and a blood clot in my arm I am 11 days out and have been in the hospital a few times. Having said that I can say with 3 kids the hospitalization was hard but, the complications from surgery are nothing to the complications I will have in the future by staying heavy. I am so excited to think of all the things in 6 months when I've lost all this weight I am going to be able to do with them. It's worth it. Most people have small or no complications. Research YOUR surgeons complication rates and make that decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
