That's a crappy thing to say and there is always someone who says this when someone says they're having trouble. Geez.

Nobody loves the pre-op diet and everyone has moments where they feel like a failure.

Let me tell you what I saw two days after surgery from other post op patients(surgery same day as mine)

1. eating a Tomato soup(not clear liquid obviously)

2. eating a creamy ice cream bar with chunks of strawberry in it.

3. lady buying a large bag of chocolate bars from gift shop(wonder who they were for).

So do I need to say re think it yes!! I lay my money down that these woman will not be successful and I pray that they will not have complications. Mostly likely they will blame their surgery as a failure...........

I think that was a Jerky thing to say amazon! Obviously you never struggled with food? ?? If your so perfect why did you need the surgery. We all have messed up and this is a sight for support and information if your just gonna cut people down I would look for another place to hang out.

You might not realize but this is a serious surgery, 85% of your stomach is removed!! I answered another post you may like to read it. If you can't do TWO WEEKS pre-op how oh how are you going to stick with a reduced intake plan for the rest of your life?? Think about it!

I think they need to hear the truth, I don't think that sugar coating it is the answer(read my other reply will give you more information).

I agree with you Amazon13, but I am maybe not so blunt : ) I had a 4 week pre-op liquid diet and was required to lose 20 pounds or no surgery. My surgeon says it's not only to shrink you liver, but to show commitment and reduce the possibility of complications. Of course it is tough, but I really wanted this surgery! I would not let myself make any excuses! I do sympathize, it's hard, but you can do this. Love yourself enough to make it happen!

One thing that helped me was staying away from tv and doing lots of errands to get ready for surgery. I'm now post-op day 4 and so glad I did it. Still in a lot of pain, but it's getting better every day. No desire for food at is point and no hunger. This surgery is a tool that can help so much, but you have to do your part too. Thanks to the pre-op diet I am already down 30 pounds from my office visit! It feels so good!

Good luck!

Some people struggle that's what this sight is for support. Amazon you are always posting negative comments! I would love to know why your on here? If its just for information read and be silent! If you want to be helpful a word in the dictionary you may want to reference is tact! I think you must enjoy tearing others down. I for one again state the obvious if you have it all figured out and never struggled with self control or food issues before why did YOU need the surgery. We all know this isn't weight watchers this is a surgery you can potentially die from so being committed and following surgeons orders is important but, if someone messes up don't kick them while their down your a bully and as a big person I have had my fill of bullies! Guess you were never bullied or laughed at or felt less than because of your weight since you have it all together??? Well me, I am on here for three reasons to learn, to get support, and give support. Why are you on here?

Amazon is so right! I have been overweight my entire life but since my doc told me that for 7 days not one bite of solid food can cross my lips it has been a breeze! I don't need the surgery now, I will just continue to drink crystal light and Protein Shakes for the rest of my life! Pre-op diets are hard because we have not had our surgery yet we still have the grhelin and normal size stomachs. Of course this will get easier for us. I have found that on every message board there is some shutin that has nothing to do but be a jerk.

My pre-op diet was horrible and it was very hard and I was hungry all the time. I had days when I cheated and went for foods I shudnt have but for the most part I did pretty good.

You know, I did "cheat" some on my preop diet, yet still lost 16 lbs. My surgeon's exact words were " wow, you did great!" So, I would say just get back on track and make double sure you comply with the diet for the remainder! YOU CAN DO IT! It will be so worth the investment for you;-)

Do not let other peoples propencity for negativity drag you down! Regardless of what they claim, if we were all self control superstars we would not need the surgery to begin with. Good luck to you!

While I was pre-op, I would think about cheating on my diet. I kept reminding myself, how important it was to shrink my liver. I didn't want any complications, and this is an important step for the surgery.

Hang in there, YOU CAN DO THIS!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
