I went to a class at my hospital I'm scheduled at on 10/1 and was told that my doctor sends his patients home with an onq pain pump (see link above). Can anyone who has used one for pain management share their experience? I had no idea I would receive one.

i came out of surgery with mine and right before i got discharged they took it out. its not uncomfortable and you dont even feel it at all except when the nurse pulled it out- it was creepy, felt like a very long worm slithering out! hmm, i wonder why they send you home with one... youll do great!

I was sent home with mine. No problem. I removed it myself 3 days later. Just pulled the tubing out, felt weird, but no pain.

The doctor said that's why I didn't feel like a train hit me. The onq pain ball made pain tolerable.

The worse part is when the doctor takes it out.....

I also had this. You don't feel it, it's very easy to remove....it was a hassle to carry around but other than that I thought it was great.

Me too....when the "ball" is empty (it will deflate), you can just pull the wire out. It's very small, I really couldn't feel it.

I have been carrying my bag around today I was zipping my robe and noticed the wire on the floor. I didn't even feel it. Tomorrow I will go to my one week postop appt and the j drain will be removed. Do you think I should call the surgeon?

Had mine. Took it out at home. Felt nothing.

The tubing is so small it's barely noticeable.

I took mine out a day early because it started to fall out. Doc said nothing about it being a problem.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
