RenMocha 2 Posted September 14, 2012 Well im 2 days away from my 4 wk post op. And im stuck. I've read a read various post about stalls and how they work but im confused as to why when I reported my lack of weight loss to my surgeon, he seemed like he was surprised and suggested I see the nutritionist again. Im barely eating nothing like what I could pre surgery. And im mainly picking foods from the nutritional packet that the nutritionist gave to me. So if the stall period happens to people, why doesn't my surgeon know about it? Fyi I've only lost 22lbs since surgery haven't lost a thing in 2 wks.
janerose 109 Posted September 14, 2012 Stalls are a fact of this life - I believe it is your body adjusting to the new life style. The scale should not be your only gauge for weight loss - during this times take a minute to notice the non scale victories such as loose clothing, crossing your legs, you will get through it all - we all have. I always remember the Doctor didn't have the surgery and while he is the professional person we should trust the most ( I do) they don't get the day to day facts of this surgery - My doctor just laughed when I explained this theory to him. barrbdoll 287 Posted September 14, 2012 FACT!!! I will stall for a couple of weeks and then start back up again... My first stall was at about 3 weeks out.. I went through another one recently that lasted for 2-3 weeks. I will say this.... MEASURE YOURSELF!!! When you stall you lose inches!! That is a FACT as well!! Good Luck! 2 rigwife3 and ShapeShifter reacted to this
PdxMan 4,292 Posted September 14, 2012 I never had a stall on my way to goal. Never. Not one. You know why? I weighed myself once a month. What is a stall? Who gets to define the parameters that make up a stall? Weight doesn't change from: Hour to hour ... day to day ... week to week ... month to month? Your definition may be different from someone elses. I like my solution best. Weigh yourself once a month and you never see the small periods where your body is adjusting. You're never discouraged. Don't be a slave to the scale. Isn't that one of the reasons why we did this? 9 lollyfidy1965, ShapeShifter, HikeEveryMountain and 6 others reacted to this
janerose 109 Posted September 14, 2012 pdx - I have weighed myself everyday all my life - just how I live. I like your idea once a month - just would not work for me. Your numbers are great - congrats. 1 barrbdoll reacted to this

Don't be a slave to the scale. Isn't that one of the reasons why we did this? True story. Before surgery, my wife bought a bunch of candy to take to work for the community candy jar. She wisely hid it fom me because I was a chocoholic. I tore the house apart looking for it, then finally went to the store and bought my own. A week after surgery I was weighing myself every five minutes for some reason, so she hid the batteries to the scale. I tore the house apart looking for them, then went to the store and bought some. Compulsive behaviors die hard. I guess it's better to weigh yourself than eat candy though. These days my only compulsive behavior is exercise.

lollyfidy1965 402 Posted September 14, 2012 Stalls are a part of our reality, but they do not mean that you're failing. I go through cycles...I'll lose 6-7 pounds over the span of 5 or 6 days, then sit still for 7-10 days, then starting dropping quickly again. Unfortunately, I'm currently in one of my "sitting still" periods. LOL It can be extremely frustrating, and makes it difficult to focus on the amazing progress I've made so far. In the end, all I can do is keep doing what I've been doing....keep eating healthfully, keep exercising daily, and keep my eye on the prize! After all, what can I do about it?? I mean...its not like I can put the missing 80% of my stomach back in...right?? LOL

If we want to change our behaviors, then we have to change our behaviors. Know what I mean?

deltadawn817 106 Posted September 14, 2012 They are real I was weight myself all the time and find It better if I do it once a week. So I have tried to resist ... I agree with you won't have a stall if you weight once a month... These are my numbers 06/25/11 - 289 02/01/12 - 279 03/12/12- 261 03/15/12- 271 03/17/12 - 260 03/22/12 255 04/01/12 250 04/02/12 249 04/20/12 245 04/23/12 243 05/03/12 236 05/08/12 235 05/23/12 231 05/29/12 229 6/20/12 225 07/21/12 218 8/16/12 207 09/6/12 203 9/7/12 201 surgery was 3/12/

Don't be a slave to the scale. Isn't that one of the reasons why we did this? Read this and much more in pdxman's book"zen and the art of weight loss". I agree, it's not a number it's about our health. I don't own a scale. Since surgery, I have bought; 2 pairs of running shoes, A core ball(Pilates), A gym membership , several new track suits(the old 3x were not practical anymore) and have claimed a corner of the basement as my exercise area. These changes speak to weight loss success more than what the scale says. I believe we buy into a type of lie when we let medical professionals set goals for us ie." goal weight", that just binds us to watching the scale to measure our "success" and for me the scale has never really been my friend. As usual you are dead on, bless you pdx!
RenMocha 2 Posted September 14, 2012 Weighing myself once a month would probably be harder then eating healthy lol. I will try to weigh myself less and do the measurement thing more often as a substitute. Its very comforting to know that it happens to a great deal of us. 1 jusstice reacted to this
barrbdoll 287 Posted September 14, 2012 Mental preparation and awareness is an essential part of this journey!! Do I weigh myself every day?? Yep!! Sure do!! But the difference is that I don't get disappointed when the scale doesn't move because I understand the process. What works for some doesn't work for others...Find a routine that YOU are comfortable with and stick with it! Best of Luck! 1 jusstice reacted to this
ShapeShifter 64 Posted September 14, 2012 I'm seconding the measurement plan. I am 4 weeks out today. I have lost 13 lbs, mostly in the first two weeks. However, I measured myself at week 2 and again after week 3... and I'd lost 5 more inches for a total of 20 inches lost. That is good encouragement for me, despite the static scale.< /p>
