I'm going out to Red Lobster for lunch with a couple of friends from work today. They know I've been sleeved. I'm 6 weeks out and on soft foods. Any suggestions? This is my first time eating out since surgery and I really don't have an appetite for anything. Now, that's me saying that and I'm beyond shocked, lol!!!

boiled crab, shrimp cocktail, baked salmon.. some kinda soft fish or crustacean (or as my aunt calls 'em-- sea bugs) that is boiled or baked, but not fried. :) and a nice tall glass of Water or iced tea. (so you can sip on that after you're done eating, if your friends haven't finished or you stick around & talk, like my family & friends always like to do lol)

can't go wrong with crab legs.. ever.. well, unless you're allergic to shellfish or have to eat Kosher or hallal... then you will go wrong with crab legs.

I would recommend a baked or broiled fish. Shrimp, crab, and lobster can be a little too chewy (almost rubbery sometimes), and may not be the best idea at just 6 weeks post-op. While clam chowder might sound and taste wonderfully, its going to be very high in fat and calories...again, probably not the best idea at just 6 weeks post-op.

I hope you find something tasty!

i agree w/JenC

soup is filling - and at 6 weeks, you are still early in the game

bon a' petite - msp?

i actually went to red lobster the other night, had boiled clams and scallop - i also confess to eating one of there delicious rolls - OMG there so good ;)

red lobster used to have all you can eat crab legs--------------yum so good - unfortunately no more

hope you enjoyed your lunch

If this is an occasional thing, eat whatever you like, just stay away from stuff that will swell, as this would quite assuredly ruin your experience.

If it were me, I'd be looking at the appetizer menu. Shrimp cocktail maybe or something small ala carte. You are not gonna be able to eat much, so if you order a full entree you will likely feel as though you've wasted money.

Fall???? What is this "fall" you speak of? I'm in Houston and its 90 degrees here. Fall is the week between Christmas and New Year's.

@Butterthebean, you're funny. Keep the 90 degrees. It feels like Fall here today!!!

Enjoyed lunch, the few bites/spoonfuls I had. Ordered a cup of Soup and an appetizer. My tummy handled all very well. BTW, I have plenty of leftovers. My friends contributed to my leftovers over my objections, lol!!! I'll freeze the soup for another day. I did order unsweetened tea with a lime and lemon slice, sometimes plain ice Water and my tummy aren't on good terms with one another!!! Kids!!! SMH!!! But, had a good time!

it was in the mid to high 60's with rain today where i live in oklahoma. :) pretty nice!

glad you got something you enjoyed, chili! :)

i know what you mean about kids.... i hate going out to eat, because of people's horrible children.. i joined a few Facebook groups for people who think there should be restaurants where kids aren't allowed, or at least where there's a curfew or a "family" section & a "adult" section.. so that people without kids don't have to be annoyed & deal with all that craziness..

example of what i mean: http://www.dailymail...ost_read_module <<< some mom brought her kid's potty training chair to a restaurant, stripped the kid & let her use the bathroom right in front of everyone... and there was a business meeting going on & everything... totally inappropriate.

i don't hate kids or anything like that, but i think people need to be better parents & stop letting them run around like chickens with their heads cut off & annoying everyone... :/

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
