scorpion509 107 Posted September 14, 2012 as some of you know I had a surgery on September 7. Recovery is good. Have minor acid Reflux but I am on Zantac. Burping slow down and became much better. still have problem sleep at night but this is another story. I am loosing very little weight. I know that we cannot compare ourselves to others, but I do. I know it was a lot of us who did the surgery around the same time. and I read that some lost 10-12lbs for the first week. I weight myself today 1 post op week and I only lost 4.8lbs. Am I doing something wrong? I am walking everyday 30-40 min. I am taking almost all my Protein I should ( 55-65g) and drinking my 50-64oz of liquid intake( including protein). but my scale doesn't want to make me happy with low number. I understand that probably my metabolism is just sleeping and now it's is waking up.... but I always thinking might be I am doing something wrong? I really expected to see a bit bigger number for the first week.
doxieville 799 Posted September 14, 2012 I was sleeved 9/21 and have 'only' lost 12 pounds since my surgery. Just relax and try not to worry. SO many factors go into how fast you lose it. ButtertheBean has a great article about why our body stalls. I happen to think its also why we lose it slower than others. I know that in the past when i've dieted, the scale has ALWAYS screeched to a halt at 213. Always. And I've always given up. That's where I'm at now and this time, thanks to my new tool, I won't be the one giving up! Eventually the numbers will move, down this time, not up. :-) You will lose it if you follow the plan. Honestly. 1 nyxa reacted to this
Supersweetums 1,164 Posted September 14, 2012 You said it yourself, and I will reiterate, please, please, please do not compare yourself to others. It will only end up making you frustrated and depressed if you are not losing as fast. Just to shine some light on the subject, a lot of people do not lose anything the first week, or even gain. Why? From all the Fluid they pump into you during surgery and all the swelling. It takes time for your body to get rid of all that. I didn't lose anything after my first week, in fact, I had gained 10lbs right after surgery, and when I got home 6 days later, I was still a pound heavier. I didn't start losing until into my second week. I was also a slow loser. It took me 18 months to reach my goal. But I got there and have been maintaining for the last 3 or so months. Everyone is different and everyone's weight lose is different. If you do what you need to do, which it sounds like you are, it will come. 6 UTGal99, scorpion509, Sleeved&Hopeful and 3 others reacted to this
O.T.R. sleever 3,386 Posted September 14, 2012 We all seem to remember those who have astounding losses, probably because we're hoping that will be us. But, keep in mind, there are several people on this forum that did not show any loss at all for 2-3 weeks after surgery. Every bodies body reacts a bit different. You lost 5lbs in a week, I'd say that's damn good. Keep in mind, 2lb/week = 104lbs in 1 year. You are doing great. And this journey has just begun. Here is another thing to consider. Many people that show huge numbers early on also aren't meeting their water/ Protein requirements. So it is quite possible that someone that show that huge 10-15lb loss the first week could very well be dehydrated by a full gallon (8lbs) or even have lost some muscle mass or density(muscle burns fat, so this is a disadvantage to them). 2 scorpion509 and Webchickadee reacted to this
Butterthebean 8,146 Posted September 14, 2012 I came home from the hospital 15 pounds heavier than when I left the house the day before. They pump you with a lot of fluids. It took a few days for that to even out. Keep in mind that most people aren't even losing fat the first week after surgery anyway. They are just burning glycogen stores. Once those are used up, then the fat burning starts. 1 CantBelieve_IdidIit! reacted to this
TracyLynn 30 Posted September 14, 2012 scale numbers will drive you crazy, focus more on how you feel, how your body feels and how your clothes are fitting. That helps me alot. Good luck! 1 CantBelieve_IdidIit! reacted to this
alliecat1095 128 Posted September 14, 2012 scale numbers will drive you crazy' date=' focus more on how you feel, how your body feels and how your clothes are fitting. That helps me alot. Good luck![/quote'] I am with TracyLynn I am only 2 wks post op and I lost only the first week and none this last week, but my clothes is fitting better. I DIDN'T GAIN THE WEIGHT OVERNIGHT SO I DO NOT EXPECT TO LOSE IT OVERNIGHT. My MD said that slower is better. It gives your body time to recoup, adjust and try and rebuild muscles and maybe not have too much sagging skin.
lmbordelon 14 Posted September 14, 2012 Hey Friend! I had my surgery on 9/4, and I have lost very little weight since my surgery. I have been the exact same number on the scale for the past 6 days...it is furstrating, but my husband keeps reminding me that my body has to catch up with what I am doing and is probably in shock! Let's keep our chin up, and keep on keep on! We will get there!

lollyfidy1965 402 Posted September 14, 2012 A week after surgery I had been home or a total of 24 hours, and weighed 1 pound more than I did the morning of surgery. We're all pumped full of fluids after surgery, so don't worry over where you are. Trust me....you will lose weight, if you follow your surgeon's instructions, and you will be amazed at how quickly it will come off!! Best of luck!
