Important Questions to ask Doctors in MX

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am still trying to chose a doctor and I am trying to think of all the important questions to ask. I keep finding more and more and I am searching on this site. Things I never thought about like getting a serial # for your band and asking for a copy of your medical records in English.

I appreciate any other questions that you think would be helpful or that you asked when you were still researching doctors.

Thanks:)

I don't know how I missed the sticky, lol...

But I would still appreciate any info in regards to doctors specifically in MX.

Thanks

Hi,

I had surgery with Dr. Ortiz, TJ, Mx Sept 13, 06. I was given a card with the serial number of my band and the description. Everything went very smoothly. I can't tell you anything about the medical records, but it was pretty much a no hassle procedure. I'm in my second week of the liquid diet now. Not loving that! Losing weight steadily so far. No complications as yet.

Thanks for replying Jewel. Right now Dr. Ortiz is the main doctor that I am looking @. I am going to call the office back this afternoon.

I am glad that everything went well with your surgery.

I was banded in July of 04 by Dr. Rumbaut. I didn't ask for the serial number of my band, but I was given a wallet card, and a letter for my doctor to put in my medical records detailing the procedure. My surgery was uneventful, and my healing time was quick. I had surgery on Friday and was back to work Tuesday (flying home Monday). One of his assisting doctors dame to my hotel to check on me as well.

As for questions, fortunately for me, I didn't have any complications, but the only question I had asked about complications was what would it take for the surgery to be converted to open surgery, and the answer was basically that really only happens to people that are 400+, in his experience. I didn't think about infections or anything like that, so I didn't ask, but you should be sure to ask what they in case of things like that, and what you'll have to pay for in those cases. Complications are the one thing that really ends up making Mexico a bad deal for some people.
