Exercising Now In Severe Pain

Recommended Posts

Yesterday evening I went for my walk and I decided to add some arm movements and also added some left to right hip (waist) movement. All day today I have had the worst pain ever on the area with the largest incision. ( sleeved 8/29) I had to take my lortab tonight. Extra strenghth tylenol did not help. I didn't have this much pain after I came home from hospital. ..I didn't even need pain meds after surgery. I think I aggravated the stitches and the muscles.

I definetly think you did all that WAY TOO SOON! most dr don't allow exercise until ur at least 6weeks out all you should be doing now is light walking i was sleeved on 8/14 and i still haven't started exercising because my main incision still hurts me just take it easy don't try to do too much i know u want to get out there and workout as do I lol i can't wait to get out there.... but we have to take care of our self's first our stomachs are still delicate. good luck and hope the pain goes away soon .....

Everybody is different... I was Sleeved on the 7th of sept and started on my treadmill on mon the 11th! I've been walking everyday and feel really good. I try to keep the speed to a min not going over 2.5 no incline and that works well! My biggest this is the itching from the incisions! It's driving me crazy! Can't out anything on them!

I agree just take it easy until you are totally healed. I waited six weeks and feel great when exercising, no pain. Feel better:)

So guys you think 6 weeks is enough to heal and start gyming?

That is what most Doctor's will say I think. I'm not quite six weeks out and I have been going to the gym for 3. Nothing major, just treadmill or eliptical and some light weights. Monday I will start a more intense program as that will be 6 weeks out for me.

I would like to know when your stomach is healed will it be normal to do step ups or any hardcore training or that will just pressure your seelve?

It is my understanding that once you are healed you can return to normal levels of excercise. However, when that is may be different from person to person and the best thing to do is discuss your personal case with your surgeon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
