pinktink91024 25 Posted September 13, 2012 I'm having surgery TOMORROW!!! And whenever I come on here I see a lot of horror stories about the surgery. Any good stories? I would told I'd only be in the hospital for one night and up and walking the next day. I really hope that's the case. I'm getting worried...

Nate 292 Posted September 13, 2012 I was scared right up til the Anesthesia guy knocked me out. After I went out, it seemed like I woke up immediately almost like no time had passed. I was a little groggy but amazingly in ZERO pain. The nurses and my Surgeon were impressed, I was up and walking 2 hours after the surgery like nothing had happened. The only thing I had that was close to pain was a little discomfort from the drain. I will admit that while my experience was pain free, it did wear me out. The week after surgery I felt like a whipped dog and was tired as heck and did nothing but want to sleep most of the time. Hopefully you have a similar pain free experience. Everything is going to go well, and dont worry they'll give you some good pain meds in case you do have any pain! Good luck!
geno5150 168 Posted September 13, 2012 While it may seem like there are a lot of horror stories, I think those sleevers tend to post because they need extra help and support (and rightly so) as those situations are really far from the norm. For every one of those, there are a hundred that go just fine. Sort of like how the evening news never reports on the thousands of airplanes that land safely every day or the millions of people that drive to work safely without any incidents. We assume everything is otherwise fine so we can focus help those that really need it. 4 IsB, Butterthebean, AdeptDreamer and 1 other reacted to this

Unfortunately many of us that have had & are continuing to have great experiences feel bad posting how easy this is for us. 6 Dooter, scorpion509, gmanbat and 3 others reacted to this
Ready4success 380 Posted September 13, 2012 I had an easy time of it, other than the recovery nurses giving me too much pain medication (I'm a minimalist), and I didn't want any narcotics after surgery. All the narcotics caused severe nausea and vomiting the entire first day, but other than that, it was fine. Tylenol was fine for pain management, from that day on. I was discharged the next day. I showered, gathered my stuff, and even rolled my own cart out of the hospital. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was the lethargy. Although, I saw a lot of postings about it, I figured I was stronger than the people on here, lol.
gmanbat 5,889 Posted September 13, 2012 Hardest part for me was that durned catheter thing. Don't know any guys that like that part or any ladies for that matter. I would say that the experience as a whole is 98% positive. A lot better than my dating experience in the 60's.
suepeeps 230 Posted September 13, 2012 My surgery was 1 week ago today. I feel fantastic. Of course you will have a little pain but you just had a major surgery. They are so good about keeping the pain under control that it was never an issue. I was up and walking around a few hours after surgery. I did not have any nausea after the first day. I have already been out and about with my girlfriends shopping for 2 days this week. Not long periods of time but at least I was out of the house for a bit. I do get tired easily but I am sure diet has a lot to do with that too. Keep a positive attitude and it will make a huge difference. Mind/body healing is a great thing!!! Good luck and keep us posted
Mr_Worm 129 Posted September 13, 2012 I feel there are lots more success stories on this board than horror stories. It may be where you're pre-op and just worrying in general that might make you "hunt" out horror stories on here. I had a one day hospital stay...no pain..didn't have to take pain meds. ZERO problems post op...advanced diet right on pace..the whole nine yards...I'm 8 months post op as of this week and 130 pounds down. Went from a size 46 waist to a size 34. Been going on more dates than what I can keep track of. My life is totally on fire health wise, professionally, and socially. ITS A FUN TIME! You'll enjoy your new life, I promise 1 kimberlee1235 reacted to this
Dooter 1,457 Posted September 13, 2012 I know EXACTLY what you're feeling!! I was away from home- hubby couldn't come with me- I have three boys to be around for- I was scared to death!!! Seven months later, I'm here to tell you it's been a dream! I'm down 90 pounds, I've not thrown up once since the hospital, my diet progression has gone....a little TOO well. statistics are on your side. Depending on the state of your health and where it's going....worth the risk. Even the worst stories I've seen on here do eventually resolve favorably. You will do great! Keep us posted!! Do me a favor though-- PLEASE follow EVERY order your doctor or nutritionist gives you!!!! And remember-- YOU do the work. NOt the sleeve. Sleevie makes the work infinitely easier, but it's all YOU!!! GO GET YOURS!! 1 kimberlee1235 reacted to this
gmanbat 5,889 Posted September 13, 2012 2 Christmas's ago my family was pushing me around in a wheelchair at Universal Studios in Orlando. Now they go for walks with me and have to drop out at about half the way, except for my youngest granddaughter who is a tough little bird. If someone offered me 100 grand to go back to pre-sleeve days I would turn it down. 3 O.T.R. sleever, mom2five and Dooter reacted to this
