Damned If I Do Damned If I Don't.

Recommended Posts

Today is day 16 post op. While I had really good results at my 2 week checkup yesterday(lost 33 lbs). I'm finding today really hard. I went from eating some sort of Pasta or potato everyday to none. I've really tried to be aware of carbs. as i see this as my true problem. I've done surprisingly well there. Where I haven't done so well is sugar. I'm from the south and probably drank a half a gallon of sweet tea a day. I just can't seem to shake this. I decided to buy decaffeinated tea but still put sugar in it. I didn't add as much as I normally would but I still added some. I really did try. I spent a ton of money on Splenda, which was disgusting in tea. Would not reccomend that. I'm just curious to know if anyone else has had any problems in this area? What did you do?

check Walmart for Mio sweet tea. i have to have flavor in my Water. just cant do plain Water unless its 100 degrees and i'm hot sweaty and working.. any other time, i gotta have flavor. i was using the crystal light on the go packs, but, i work in the field, and by the time i finish my 20 ounce bottle, the ice is gone, and it got warm. so, i take a big water jug, filled with ice water. and my 20 ounce bottle. i fill it half way with the ice water, put in a squirt of the mio tea, and drink it while it is cold. 0 calories and tastes kinda like mcdonalds sweet tea to me. it is about $3.99 for a bottle that makes about 10-12 20 ounce teas, but, for me, it works.

good luck.

Have you ever drank beer or wine? Did you like the taste of those the frist time you drank them? Probably not, but like most people you kept drinking them for some reason, and i bet it wasn't for a reason nearly as good as you have to not use sugar. That would be your success at losing weight and your health. My point being is you can get use to it if you give it a chance, and you will be much better off. Drinking high calorie drinks like sweet tea will set you up for failure. We don't want to see anyone fail around here.

I love sweet tea too! But after surgery I changed from sugar to truvia. I actually use a half of cup of the Truvia (from the bigger baking bag) and 6 packets of equal. And I add this to my gallon jug. It is the closest to sweet tea as I have got! Good luck! I also like the mio too! :)

Can you get Natvia? According to the label:

0.6 calories vs sugar 16 calories (teaspoon)

No aspartame, no saccharin, no sucralose, no fructose, no sodium. Low GI. Carb sugars 0g/100g.

I weaned myself from sweet tea some years ago. It took a while to get used to the flavor of just the tea, but now I like it that way. Probably not something you would consider, but thought I would put it on the table anyway.

Do you use both the Truvia and the Equal at the same time or is that Truvia OR Equal???

Man you are lucky you can still tolerate sugar, I'm 3 months post op and anything with even a tiny amount of sugar in it makes me sick! This would not be so bad except I was one of those people obsessed with any kind of dessert, I would rather have it than my meal, but boy o boy have the tables turned on me!

I mix both together. My 10 year old son is a diabetic and it took us a LOT of times of trying to come up with this. And after my surgery we all just switched to the no sugar tea. Lol Oh and I double checked the tea jug and it is a gallon container. So we use 1/2 cup Truvia AND 5 equal packets for the whole gallon. It's kinda weird but my family loves it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
