How Much Weight Loss On Pre-Op?

Recommended Posts

My doctor decided to do 3 weeks of a high Protein liquid diet before surgery. I started that liquid diet on Sunday and as of this morning I have lost 13 lbs by my scale. How much should I hope or expect to see come off in these first few weeks? Anyone have some insight they can share?

I think it depends on many variables like (age, muscle mass, liquid diet duration, if you're allowed some solids, etc). As for me, I was on the liquid diet for 2 1/2 weeks and lost 16 pounds.....but a good bit of that was muscle weight.

I started my pre-op diet on Monday & am down 8lbs today. I am sure as we are all different we will all have different results.

I was on a 3 week liquid diet and I lost 31 lbs. Of course I had gained 20 in the month before I started. food funerals can pack on some pounds! 3 weeks can be tough....just put your head down and get through it

I am really hopeful that I will lose around 30 or 40 pounds on the pre-op. Not only to make sure that I have downsized enough fatty tissue around the liver, but also because the more that comes off now, the less I will have to lose later. I was at 20 lbs yesterday - I am going to have to hide my scale so that I don't become obsessed!! :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
