My surgeon offers two companies. One is www.carecredit.com. The other is www.unitedmedical credit.com.

I hope this helps. I'm not sure of the interest rates.

So many people on this site were sleeved in Mexico. I've seen prices between $4,500 to $7,000. Maybe that would be more affordable for you.

My surgeon has pamphlets about some kind of financing option through Chase medical division. Although, it being Chase, I doubt it's interest free.

I had to self pay so Mexico became a great alternative! There is an entire board dedicated to Self Pay/Mexico Sleevers

401k loans and hardship withdrawals are another option too..... At least your paying yourself back at a positive interest rate and you can deduct it off your income taxes next year if it exceeds 7.5% of your gross income...

Did you appeal first? ...because now the public insurances are covering it for everyone...and other insurances always follow suit, then. Appeal it!

I used a withdraw from my 401K to go to Mexico. My surgery cost 5500. Most surgeons list the finance company the use on their website, but I have not seen any with zero intrest unless you pay it off within a short term like 6-12 months. Good Luck, I hope you come up with a plan that works for you.

Depending on how your 401K is set up, you still may have to pay back with interest. I wouldn't suggest touching the retirement account.

Thanks everyone for your advise. I don't have a 401k to borrow from. I'll figure this out , I'm going to make some calls tomorrow.

I agree. You'll pay it back with money that has already been taxed, thereby taxing yourself twice.

I think going to Mexico is the best value, but that decision is up to each individual person.

CARE CREDIT is interest free up to so many months if it's paid on time and for the length of time they allow for repayment. Your doctor's office should have the information or online. It is through G.E. Capital.

here is a related question from me...I know my insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery, so I will most likely be paying for the VSG myself...I have saved enough to pay for it; however, a concern I have is the chance of complications...I have heard that if you self-pay for the VSC surgery, that if you have complications as a result, the insurance company won't cover the cost of care that ensue from the complications...extended hospital stays, rehab and additional surgeries could add up to way over twice what the initial surgery costs...supposedly there are insurance companies that you can obtain a policy from that will cover the costs of care if the surgery has complications for up to one year post-surgery....has anybody heard of this or know of someone who has utilized it? any feedback will be helpful

I am wondering how this company--Care Credit, which I have heard of--stays in business if it charges no interest...it must be that the surgeons themselves "discount" the account when it's turned over to Care Credit...in other words, if the surgeon's bill is $15,000, Care Credit would settle with the dr. by paying him/her $14,000 let's say...from the patient, though, Care Credit would collect the entire $15,000 from the patient, thereby profiting by $1,000 on the transaction

that makes me wonder...do surgeons possibly charge less to patients who are paying them up front with cash versus the patients who either finance through some company like Care Credit or have to file paperwork for insurance coverage....hmmm

It's a credit card company. That's how they make money. People pay late....late penalty. People can't pay back within the interest-free period....interest starts. I'm willing to be that most people are not able to pay back within the interest-free period. And, I'm pretty certain the interest is sky high.

Not be a downer but I've looked up this GE capital company and they don't have the best reviews in terms of customer relations.

And yes, surgeons will charge cash patients less. Here, the bariatric surgeons are on television all the time giving their "special cash price."

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
