Linda 66 34 Posted September 11, 2012 Off Topic, but I'm surprised and now curious.... I spoke w/ a bariatric nurse coordinator today and she said the sleeve is not reversible (I KNEW this), the lapband is removable (been there done that) BUT, what I DIDN'T know (and I was told years ago, it wasn't) was that the gastric BYPASS is reversible! Really?! Is this true?! I have to read up on this because Yrs ago (when I was banded) I was told, "the gastric bypass was irreversible". Was this nurse wrong or has things changed?? btw...I hope everyone is well/healthy/successful!
ShrinkyDinkMe22 376 Posted September 12, 2012 when i went to my seminar on 8/4 i was told that the duodenal switch, rny and sleeve were all none reversible. maybe my dr was wrong...but i have never heard that rny was reversible.
FDclerical 318 Posted September 12, 2012 Yes the RNY is definitely reversible. My surgeon advised this as well. Also Google will confirm your question
Teriiann 34 Posted September 12, 2012 I have a friend who had gastric, she told me not to do the sleeve because you can never have your tummy back. She said hers is reversible.
DEZ1975 170 Posted September 12, 2012 Gastric bypass is reversible in cases if extreme emergency and even then it has only a 50/50 chance of a successful reversal. All surgeons I spoke to said to consider it permanent.
