Officially Been Banded!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I just got home from the hospital a few hours ago. I was banded yesterday morning and my surgeon said everything went perfect. I was even able to walk around the block a few minutes ago! She used the smaller of the two bands.

Thank the Lord I was able to get rid of the fever I had Tuesday, but now I have a bit of chest congestion I am trying to chase away. Only one problem so far. Anyone know how I can get rid of all this gas? It will not come out no matter what I do. And what sleeping positions do ya'll recommend? I am really uncomfortable sleeping on my back all through the night. Despite a few minor issues, I am happy to be banded and look forward to the future! :)

Thanks,

Sarah

Congrats on your new band Sarah,

I'm so proud for you. Some people used the gasx strips but I didn't have much of a problem with it. Walking is the best thing in the world for that. You might try the gas x, it may be just what you need. I have the smaller band myself and the lowprofile one, you will love it. Take care of yourself and give yourself time to heal.

I agree, walking and gas x were the best things for the gas.

As far as sleeping, do you have a recliner? I found that I was more comfortable sleeping in a recliner for the first few nights. After that, I was able to sleep either on my back or on the side that my port isn't on.

Oh, by the way, congratulations on getting your band!

I tried the Gas-X strips and they did nothing for me. The Gas-X chewables did however help a lot. And like everyone said, walking around as much as you can.

We have a consensus here......walking definately helped me with the gas....Gas X however didn't give me much relief.

Congrats on being banded....its the best thing I ever did for myself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
