So for a week I have been watching my intake at 1200 calories. Two Protein Shakes a day two Snacks and a small dinner. Walked a couple days... And not a pound lost. This is so frustrating. I have to complete a 12 week pre op program with kaiser and in the durAtion loose 30lbs or at the end delay my surgery till I do.... But how could I so drastically change my diet and not loose a pound! I know it's only been a week but I expected something.... Alright I'm done... :(

Keep at it, if you stay at 1200 calories it will drop! I lost 32 lbs. on the Kaiser pre-op diet.

One tip: I weigh my food because I find it more accurate than measuring. Most packages include the weight in grams for a serving so I put a dish on my scale, zero it out, and then add food.

To lose a pound of weight you have to burn 3,500 calories more than you take in. You can calculate the number of calories you would need to stay at your current weight (there are calculators online....just google it). From that number, you can work backwards to determine how many calories you can consume, and how many calories you would need to burn (through exercise) to hit a deficit on any given day.

At 3 months post-op, I consume 650 calories/day, on average. I typically burn between 500 and 800 calories/day at the gym, 6 days/week. To maintain my current weight I would need to consume roughly 2,000/day. Doing the math on these numbers (using the low end of my daily workout number) I should be losing approximately 3.7 pounds per week. In reality, I'm losing between 4 and 5 pounds/week, on average.

Even with the sleeve, the physics of losing weight don't change. We have to decrease the number of calories we consume, and increase the number of calories we burn. The sleeve simply makes it possible to function on a significantly smaller number of calories. In your case (and as much as you may not want to hear this....sorry...), 1,200 calories/day may simply be too many, given your level of exercise. My suggestion would be to increase the amount of activity you're doing...walk 30 minutes every day, sign up for a Water aerobics class (my favorite)...whatever you enjoy doing, and see if it makes a difference for you.

I wish you all the best....and great success!

Congrats on making a choice to be in control of your health. Everyone loses differently don't be discouraged. I would get the my fitness pal app and start logging all food Water and exercise,it may seem tedious at first but it is so with it. Once you know where your nutrition comes from you can work with your nut to make adjustments to keep or start loosing , it's also a great habit for post surgery.

I am pre-op also, and am getting sleeved on Friday. I also was trying to lose pre-op before my liquid diet and started eating sort of like we will be eating after VSG, only probably a few more calories. I reduced my calories to around 1000 and concentrated on getting 60-80 grams of Protein. I was also using an app called myfitnesspal to record my calories and protein. So for lunch I was eating maybe 3-4 shrimp, a boiled egg, 1/4 cup of low carb greek yogurt and a handful of nuts or maybe a baby orange. Always just did small portion, hight protein, low carb and sugar and lost 10 pounds pretty easy. Hope this helps! Hang in there!

Thanks all of you... I guess I just need to focus more... Less in and more exercise... But it's still frustrating to go from one end of the spectrum to the other for a week and see no change... But moving on now. I think I can just be really hard on myself... Again thank you for responding...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
