How Long Off Work For An Office Job?

Recommended Posts

Careless01 posted about going back to work after surgery but has a way more labor intensive job than I do. I work 8h a day/40h a week M-F - typical boring office job where I sit at my computer all day long. I very rarely have to get up ever. (sidenote: this probably one of the many reasons I'm fat!) I was planning on taking a week. Two AT THE MOST and only under the most trying circumstances. My STD benefits don't kick in for 10 days and I only get 60% of my pay, so I really don't want to take off more time than I need to, since I'm a single gal and it's my only income.

My question is, do you think I can reasonably go back to work in a week after VSG? I had laparoscopic gall bladder surgery a few years ago and was back to work 6 days after surgery because I had the same "sit-at-my-desk" kind of job and the same financial situation. I did just fine with that. I know VSG is a much more significant procedure, but if my work agrees to let me eat when I need to and any other accommodation, do you think I'd be able to be back at work a week later?

This is something I've been thinking about as well. Fortunately for me, I'm in a unique position in that I work in IT and as it is, I "Work from Home" about once per week. I figure after a couple days home, I can just do that until I'm well enough to go back to the office. I'm about 95% sure my boss will be okay with it, but then there's that other 5%

I'm with you I was planning on taking off only a week! My job is the same sit all day type. And I know they would let me work from home or leave early if need be. I guess it will all depend on how you feel. My doc told me to take off for 4 weeks. I don't think that would be good for my recovering because I would so crazy

You'll be fine with one week. I only took a week off and I went back to work that second week full time. I was tired once I was back to work, but really I was working out and back to my routine very quickly.

everyone has to gauge that for themselves...but it's not just the job... tho a "sit down" job would be easier to go back to... but the driving, the eating, and they say the way the anethesia affects you... so everyone is different... but don't try to do it too soon!

I had surgery on a wednesday, and was back the following wednesday. I have a sit down job, and as long as you dont over do it, and lift anything over I think it was 7 pounds, You will do fine ;)

I would say to take 2 weeks. i took 16 days total. my STD was the same. i felt better after a week but i did have to be readmitted for dehydration after a week of being home. i would say plan for 2 weeks and if you do fine the first week you can always go back early as long as the doctor approves.

I am planning on taking off 1 week. I teach cake decorating classes and I teach 2 classes a day each being 2 hours each. I spoke to the dr. and he said 1 week is fine because I don't lift anything heavy. I think it would work out fine as I have a class in the morning and another class in the evening this will give me a chance to go home and rest if I feel to tired.

My operation went very well and I was fit to go back to work 10 days afterwards but the anisthic left me unable to make good decisions for about 3 months!

Today was my first day back in the office. I Am post op day 10 and feel great! Returning to work was no problem but I have 2 complaints:

It sucked getting up to an alarm at 5:30am!

I seemed to get bloated or expand throughout the day. I recommend wearing a skirt or something with elastic the first days back. I was ready to unbutton my slacks by 3pm.

Hi I was giving the oppurtunity to work from home. I let my partner work for me the 1st week and I have been waking up just like I was working Up at 6 and start working. I am glad because I was having trouble meeting my goals of Water and Protein. I think I finally getting there. I still get really fatigued and tryingto walk and push thru it. I have my post op tomorrow with nut and surgeon.

I have an office job as well. I took a week off, but really could have gone back sooner. My surgery was on a Friday. I probably would have been fine on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll admit that I was tired. broth and Water aren't a great source of energy.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
