I Need Drugs.... Soon :)

Recommended Posts

2 more days! I cannot believe its almost here. People at work are noticing today the liquid diet thing. Because I supervise staff I had to put out an email of when ill be out and people are not afraid to ask why. I tell them medical and then they worry. I then tell them it's fine and then they are curious. I don't want to tell them..... Yet. I need to get through this first.

Hysteria- Good song by Def Lepard. ;)

I am doing the same thing, Justine. No one has asked, though. Since I work for a local government, they know that they can't ask due to the privacy laws. No one has noticed the liquid diet as of yet. I'm day four.

Hang in there and stay tough. :)

i'd just tell them that i had a really bad stomach virus & the only things i could keep down are simple stuff with basic nutrients & that my doctor just wants me to stay hydrated..

if they kept pushing me for answers.. lol seems pretty thorough. ;)

then when you go back & you don't eat much or are still on liquids or mushy food, you could just be like "yeah... still having a tough time keeping stuff down. it's crazy!" lol

alternately, you could just tell 'em you're doing a 'fast' and you're detoxing & needed time off to do it with proper medical supervision.. or whatever...

Yep- I work for local government as well- that doesn't stop them (employees). The bossss can't ask.

I'm hungry!!! I dont want to work these two days. My mind isn't in it. How's that for whining?

not whiney, just being honest. it's hard when you're going through all this stuff. liquid diet affects your mood & energy level + stress of having surgery & preparing for it + work + other stuff going on in your life.. lol it's stressful & at least you're not throwing in the towel, you're still hanging in there, even though you don't want to! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
