Stall During Pre Op?

Recommended Posts

As anyone experienced a stall during their pre op diet? Mine is shakes and Water only. I'm allowed 900-1100 calories a day but I keep it at 900. I have been stuck at the same weight for 3 days. I have to be down to 260 by sept 27 which is my next appt and surgery is oct 2. I have a very strict surgeon who will not operate if im anything over 260...Any advice?

I have been on a four week preop liquid diet (surgery is on Tuesday). I needed to lose 20 pounds prior to surgery and I'm there. I did have a stall my third week and only lost 4 pounds, all toward the end of the week. If you are worried, just walk as much as you can and it will really help! I bet you'll weigh yourself one day and suddenly you'll be down a few pounds! If I can do it you can do it!

By the way, my first preop appointment I was 280, second appointment was 276 (started preop at this point) and then four weeks later I'm 255.

Ha, we posted at he same time! I thought the preop diet was tough, but I made it through without ever cheating. I even had birthday parties, a visit across country to visit family (with two kids alone on the plane) and a bar mitzvah!

My cheat days were when my fiancé was in town. They weren't even cheating. I had grilled chicken and veggies lol but I guess on a liquid only diet it's cheating. There have been temptations..I chewed up a Danish at work and spat it out..I guess I'm just a human and still have cravings! But haven't swallowed solid food since September 6.. Hope I get down to 255 by my appointment :)

walking is great! :) you could also do something more fun, like zumba.. or some kinda video, so you don't feel like such a tard wandering around out in the wild (or maybe that's just me? lol).. heck, even wiggling your legs while you're sitting down watching TV or at the computer will burn some calories. :)

wish you the best. :) i believe you can and WILL do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
