How Did You Feel The Day Of Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I got up to walk the day of surgery, but holy heck was I in pain. I walked out into the hall and walked back to my bed that I couldn't even get back into because of the pain. :)

But not to worry, every day really does get a little better!

Everyday gets better. I'm 6 days post op and still feel some pain but that's because I've over done it a little. I tire quicker than I thought I would though. I stayed in the hospital for 3 nights and couldn't wait to get home. Remember take your pain meds, they will help I promise!

I was having o2 level issues (at 70% at lowest) for about 4 days, and spent 2 days in icu. The doctor was not really clear on what caused it, but it was probably related to anesthesia. The hospital gave me a little device to build up my lung capacity (only needed for about 2 weeks post op total).

I also could not eat or drink anything for 3 days post op because of very bad pain after every swallow. Both issues went away by 1 week.

Overall, post op has been great after the first week and am down 85 lb after 10 weeks. The surgery gas took about 3 weeks to go away, but to this day, i still get a lot of bloating and gas. I do not use gasx for it, but may start.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
