Tomorrow I'm going to my best friends house to watch Monday night foot ball. I will be 13 days post op. my doctor won't let me start even mushy foods till day 14, and that may not even be Tuesday since I started shakes late because I had a rough first few days. I know pizza will be there. Pizza is my krytonite. I love it I ate it a few times a week pre op. I'm terrified. I don't want to not go because of a silly food and I miss seeing her. I am so scared I may break down and have a bite of pizza. I'm worried it will make me sick. I don't know I just thought I would post this since I can't talk to my friends or family about this because they would find it crazy! I know deep down this is crazy!!

It's not crazy and your not crazy!! Totally reasonable fear. The thing is people who havent gone through this process just cant relate as well as those who have :) I wish you lots of strength tomorrow. Ive read lots of favorite foods before the surgery never taste as good afterwards. Not sure if its true or not but its a nice thought!!! (((hug)))

Go enjoy yourself. Take you a couple of rtd protien shakes and you will do great. You have to start sometime retraining yourself about food and social activities. I have faith you can do it. Heck today i was at a "breastaurant" watching games. I ate 5 lemon pepper wings. 3 months ago that would have been 20 with mozzarella sticks, and apple turnovers with ice cream for dessert. If i can only eat 5 wings you can resist that nasty pizza.< /p>

If you really truly think you can't say no to the pizza right now, then don't go. It's ok to say you're still recovering and not up for it. I avoided those situations for 3 weeks and it really helped me. You have to e our own best advocate and that means knowing your limits right now.

Thanks guys, I decided to go because I miss my best friend so much. I decided to just bring some Jello. She and her husband are the only 2 there that know I have had the surgery and I'm really not in the mood to talk about it with everyone else so I'm just going to tell them my stomach is upset so I don't feel like eating. I really appreciate the support

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
